  • A poem...

Once thought to be trapped in this body
    in this grotesque costume
imprisoned by my own gluttony and ignorance
my true beauty captured by this monster

    Coming to the reality
of not making it to watch my god daughter
grow to be a beautiful young lady
    get married and have children

    To realize that the creature
that stole my mother from me
would be coming to consume me next
if I didn't change what i was turning into

    But the light shone bright
and everyone that was never by my side
will see what power I have
    and what I can become
to watch my mother smile down upon me
and feel proud that I am her daughter

And the strength she gives me everyday
to beat these obstacles that lay ahead
and the friends that I have grown to love so dearly
behind me to cheer me on

Life is not meant to waste
    that I shall never forget
because my life has just begun
and the long road to recovering the true me
    grows shorter each day

    With that in mind
Let the reflection in the mirror taunt me while it can
because inside I am clawing my way out
and when I finally leave this unhealthy mass of flesh
I will be reborn into the young woman I was meant to be

I love this attitude of "I will overcome". I think all of us here need it to have that to get started, and to stay focused.

Wonderful poem!! Hey...since you like writing...have you thought about keeping an Atkins journal? You could use it to document your weight and measurements, and journal your experiences. That way....when you're skinny you'll have a permanent record of your journey. If nothing else, it would be more living, breathing proof that you CAN do anything.
