  • My friend

A while back I shared about my friend who is over 500 lbs and is homebound pretty much. I'm so proud of him. Although he would not begin Atkins with me he went to a Weight Watchers meeting on Sunday. I'm so proud of him that he was able to get out of the house and go. I tried to get him to begin Atkins with me, I purchased him his own Book, but he said that to him, the WOE did not make sense because he put on his weight by eating what I'm eating now. Oh well, he did not read the book I can see. Please keep him in your 'good thoughts'.

As for me, I'm on my 2nd day of drinking water with a slice of lemon in it. I nearly got down 2 quarts yesterday and today I'm aiming for more. I was worried on Sunday when I was taken out to breakfast, but I ordered pork chops and eggs, with 2 slices of tomato instead of hash brown potato's. I'm weighing myself this Thursday and crossing my fingers. TOM is on its way.

I'm glad to hear that your friend has gotten out of the house and has become open to weight watchers. In time, with your progress and shrinking body as inspiration, maybe he'll come over to the Atkins side of the fence!!!

I hope your friend decides to read the book more.

At my highest 473 pounds, I tried to join weight watchers, but I literally couldn't last 48 hours. It was that tough with the blood sugar. I remember almost passing out at night and having to go to bed early, just to do something instead of being hungry.

From my experience Weight Watchers does not help super-sized people. I don't think they even want to!

I suppose the best thing to do is be there when he falls off, and keep plugging Atkins!

        Re: My friend

While I have started this new WOE, one of my best friends has started weight watchers. She has tried it before (when I myself was on it and lost 60 lbs.) and she is happy so far. She decided to stick with that for now, happy that she is losing a pound or two a week. I hope that it works for your friend just as I hope it works for mine. Althought I have chosen this option, I stand by my friend in their own decision.

Gilbert has continued on Weight Watchers. I'm very proud of him, but he is playing with that diet in a pick and choose manner. He is allowed so many points a day so one day he eats over the points then maybe 2 days later he starves himself. His little brother Steve has lost 47 lbs on WW but he was not morbidly obeese. I'm just worried Gilbert will so lazy in it and compare himself to Steve that he will give up. Gilbert keeps telling me that I'm looking better and better and he pointed it out the other night. I'm not one for complements and don't know what to do when I get them so I push them off. But I also know I have to constantly give Gilbert compliments or he does not do well. He is always in need of approval. I wish he would begin Atkins. But its up to him.

If he does the core and not the flex he'll probably do fine. Core is more like South Beach and would allow him to eat more and not count calories and such. Weight Watchers just didn't work for me. I'm so scared of becoming diabetic, and eating all those carbs was just not helping me. Atkins is the only way of eating that I've ever felt full and didn't have cravings.
