  • Carbohydrate Blockers????

    Hi Everyone;
    I was shopping today and saw that there is this over the counter stuff called a carbohydrate and fat blocker that is supposed to help pass carbs through the body quickly. Thing is they are sold at GNC Health Store and it says that they were Atkins Phase 2 "friendly". But nothing on it was from Atkins INC.

    Have you heard of them and is this stuff just junk?

    I have heard about things like this, but I am not 100 sure about them. I have never tried them and I dont think I ever would. But hopefully someone (like 2big) can stop by and give you a more scientific run down on them.

    It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

    I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

      Phase 2 is a brand name of a bean extract that slows down the digestion of carbohydrates. Instead of digesting in the stomach and turning into glucose, carbs are broken down in the intestine. Theoretically this prevents a spike in blood sugar. This product may or may not work.

      If you are doing Atkins correctly, you should'nt need a starch blocker.

        Re: Carbohydrate Blockers????

        First off since you are doing Atkins you don't have any extra carbs for this product to block.
        The white kidney bean extract is the only appoved supplement to do this andPhase2 got an FDA letter about mislabeling its products and requst to submit studies proving the other stuff in there worked too as it was claoming in its ads.

        Actually those labels caling them carb blockers is misleading. they react with the ezymes needed to digest starches and allow some starches to go unbroken down through the system and out the butt.
        They will not block any sugars naturaly or artificially occuring in the food

          I'm just glad that I have become a label reader. I was shopping for my vitamins and see what I found.
