  • Ok, I have not been exercizing

    I are reading how you all are exercizing and I admit, I'm not, unless walking from office to office or class to class or around the classroom counts. I don't like to sit behind my desk. On my day off I stay close to the house and just pitter round.
    I have an old 'tony little gazelle' in the garage that's catching dust. Maybe I'm not losing more becasue I"m not pushing myself to do this. EEeeekkk I hate it.

    I understand you...I haven't really started exercising yet either...last time I did Atkins I hit a 4 months stall when I started exercising, so I'm a little scared...

    I have been walking though, but not enough to break a sweat....

    Maybe I should just get off my fat *** and do it...LOL....

      Joining an exercise challenge might help. Eventually, you might find after you've been exercising for awhile that you actually start looking forward to it. Is the gazelle fun to do? I never actually tried it. Just start out a little each day. I find that it's usually the hardest part to get started, but after the first 5 minutes I usually want to continue.

        If your goal was weight loss and not fat loss, I can see why this was distressing!

        You may have stalled on the scale, but I promise you you were adding lean muscle mass and removing fat from your body.

        THAT's the goal

        Does it really matter what the scale says if you can fit into the size pants you want?!!!

          I know what you are saying Brook, and I agree.....but in my mind I just want to lose the weight, even though I know it is much healthier to replace it with muscle...
          I do like exercising.....not as much as cake, LOL, but still.....
          I will start doing some exercise....at least 1 hour 2 times a week......that's minimum!!!!
          I'm trying to find an aerobics class or something, that isn't costing me everything I own....

            Well I bought the gazelle because of my ankles. My right ankle was broken once and never healed correct. I tried a tread mill once and after a couple of strides the ankle just went out and I almost went down.
            As for the gazelle, its ok, I just get bored so it ended up in the garage. When friends come over they are on it immediately and they like it. I'm just strange I guess.

              I had developed a good habit of taking my lunchtime to walk on the walking track next door. But THEN on a windy day one of my contacts blew away!! (SEE...I KNEW exercise was bad for you!!) I've had vision problems for the past two weeks since, so I was afraid that if I did exercise I'd lose the remaining contact. But now I have new contacts and two new pairs of glasses, so I'm going back to my lunch time walking.

              I don't like doing it, but when I'm done I'm very glad I did!!

                Off Topic I can relate to the contact problems. I have unsuccessfully worn contacts for a year. (Darn things sometimes pop out of my eyes). Went to see if I was a candidate for Lasix surgery. I'M NOT. and found out that I have cataracts growing, very young, and dead center in both eyes. So I have to look out in 1 - 5 yrs for cataract surgery, then they will be implanted with contacts.

                On Topic I pulled the gazelle out of the garage and into the den. Is that considered exercize? LOL.

                  Since January 2005 I have been very consistant with my exericing. In May 2005, my doctor said I needed to lose weight (duh) but then suggested training for a marathon so that I had a goal. Well, I had trained for one in college but hurt my knee and didn't get to run it. SO I thought, that's a good idea and last Sunday I ran my first half marathon!!!!!

                  I am also training for the LA Marathon (March 19, 2006). My body is much stronger and I have so much more endurance now. For a while I couldn't jog a mile if my life depended on it. On Sunday, I jogged 7 miles, without stopping!!!!!

                  Maybe you need a goal to get yourself moving.

                  It worked for me : )

                    Is a gazelle a sort of air walker? A friend gave me one and it really helped - becasue of my dodgy ankles (Achilles injuries) I could not walk on road or treadmill. Bu now I've lost some I find I can. Using the thing was boring (at first I was so unfit 5 mins was hard!) but I got up to 30 mins and a good sweat up. It was amusing seeing my 5 cats lined looking at me - you could almost hear them thinking "What on EARTH is she doing that for?". Exercise rally does help, though, so maybe you should exhume it and give it a go.

                      Yes, the gazelle is an 'air walker' Tony Little is health and fitness guide, and its his version; sold on late night tv for 200 dollars. At least it was when I purchased mine.

                        would swimming be an option for you? also maybe just some lifting weights? you'd be amazed that a little goes a long way.

                          so hop on your gazell and then reward yourself with a non food reward for doing your workout. As you get in beter shape up the fequency of the workout to earn the reward. if you are into bubble baths and stuff maybe a soak if you do 3 days 20 min this week and then a soak if you do 3 days of 30 min next week. whatever you like. I know I don't log on ADBB until my treadmill is done on HIIT days

                            Is a gazelle the kind of machine that you can use and watch TV or a DVD?

                            I find I can only do the ironing if I have something good to listen to, so the advent of online 'listen again' on the BBC and a looong cable on my headphones really helps me get it done!

                              Well after I posted yesterday and got the darn thing out of the garage and into the hosue. I actually used it for 10 min. My German Shepherd kept circling around me and pacing as I stretched out my legs in the swinging fashion. She's trying to figure out how to keep up with me when I'm not going anywhere.

                              The reason I don't walk my dog is because it's not safe to do so. Too many stray pit bulls and rotty's roam our streets and I'm not into dog fights.
