  • What is a REALISTIC GOAL???

    Hi Gang !

I want to pose this question to everyone and see what you think.

I am 5'3.5" inches tall and now weigh 301. (lost 5 pounds)- I want to make some goals and have been reading some of the success stories. Can you tell me what you think is a REALISTIC goal for the following important dates in MY life?

How much is obtainable by March 27 (my 37th bday)

How much is obtainable by summer (say June 1st)

What is a good goal for a 100 pound weight loss.

I seem to lose weight at an average rate and I do exercise. At least 20 minutes a day on the treadmill and getting ready to pick it up with the new exercise challenges in March.

I just wanted to get the board opinion or maybe your experience. I am just excited and ready to get it gone...

    Kelly

It is hard to generalise because everyone is very different. Here are my figures

    Start 09/09/2005 at 131 kg/289 lbs
    First week induction lost 7kg/15.4lbs
    Second week lost 4kg/8.8lbs
End 4 weeks lost total 14kg/30.8lbs
End 8 weeks lost total 16kg/35.2lbs
End 12 weeks lost total 19kg/41.8lbs
End 16 weeks lost total 23kg/50.7lbs
End 20 weeks lost total 25kg/55.1lbs
End 23 weeks lost total 26kg/57.25lbs (I am in week 24 now)

As you can see it slows dramatically after a month or so. But that said, some people lose faster than this - not so much at the start but a higher progress rate. No onew can predict what type you will be. Sarah (iyamamaschke) has lost 100lbs in 1 year and 3 months (I think I have that right!).

Good luck with it! Really works and you'll get good weight losses.

I lost 11kg or 25.4lbs in 14 days on Induction!
    131 kg (HW/est SW)/ 104.3 (CW)/ 63 (GW)
    288.5 lbs / 223.5 / 138 (1kg = 2.202 lbs)

Kelley, we all loose at different rates, and we'll each stall for one reason or another (too much cream or too liberal with the cheese or a few extra splenda will stop me) so there is no predicting those. We all loose pretty quick at first and then it slows or if you get PISS (post induction stall syndrome) you might even stop loosing at about 6 weeks for a few weeks. That being said, I'd say you can loose 8 pounds a month if you're really strict, do you exercising and measure all your foods. so by your birthday maybe 16 pounds. By June 30 pounds. But again, that's a total guess, your mileage (and weight loss) may vary.

Whatever you loose, you'll be healthier, happier and you'll be moving so much better than you are now. Keep the faith and stick with it, you in this for your better health and improving your quality of life. All weight loss is beautiful!

          Hi
It would be awful if you measured yourself against some one and didn't feel like "you" were doing so well, or set goals you couldn't meet.

Re: What is a REALISTIC GOAL???

I set goals like, "I want to lose 10 pounds" but I don't give myself a DATE or TIME that I'm supposed to finish it. I leave that open.

http://mommyish.net/food/?page_id=11 <--- my goal chart. Some goals are close together, some are far apart, but no dates or times by which I am to finish, just my goals and places for me to put when I reached them and how I reward myself.

Sometimes when we focus too much on the amount of time it takes we set ourselves up for failure. I made time related goals before and just set myself up for dissapointment. With an open goal you will be a success!
