  • Century Club Questions

Hi there, Century Club Members. I'm wondering, how do you join the Century Club? I'd really love to talk with those of you who have similar amounts of weight to lose (or have already done so), and I'd be very interested in having an accountability partner to share ups, downs, menus, experiences and give and receive support along the way.

I'm also very curious about the time I should expect it to take to lose 100 pounds on Atkins. I was REALLY hoping to do it in one year exactly, is that at all possible or realistic? Too aggressive?

    Female, age 35, 5'2"
    start weight: 275 on 1/3/06
    current weight: 251 on 2/22/06 (24 pounds, 7 weeks, ~3.5 lb/week)
    goal weight: 175 by 1/3/07

Major Goal: lose 100 pounds (Given my height, there will still be lots of room to lose after this. This is not my lifetime goal weight, nor do I expect to be on maintenance at the end of this goal, probably OWL.)

I had these as my tentative milestones, hoping to reach 100 pounds 1 year after I began:

    2/8: 255 (20 pounds, 5 weeks, 4 lb/week) (completed)
    4/5: 235 (20 pounds, 8 weeks, 2.5 lb/week)
    7/5: 210 (25 pounds, 13 weeks, ~2 lb/week)
    8/30: 196 (14 pounds, 8 weeks, 1.75 lb/week)
    11/22: 180 (16 pounds, 12 weeks, ~1.3 lb/week)
    1/3: 175 (5 pounds, 6 weeks, ~ 1.2 lb/week)

Would love input from those of you who are doing this or who have already done it. If my expecations are unrealistic, I figure it would be better to alter them now than to feel disappointed and defeated when I don't reach the goal in the timeframe I hope. Thanks in advance!

Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!

    Re: Century Club Questions

As far as I know, Century Club is open membership!! I just added the icon to my siggie and tried to act normal. *whistle whistle*

I know 100 pounds in a year is possible, but a lot depends on how your body wants to go about losing the weight... stalls happen, whooshies happen, and it's tough to know how the cards will lay themselves down over the next year. I don't think it's an impossible goal, but I will say it is an ambitious one. I think goals are nice and can be very helpful as long as you are a person that doesn't become devastated if your body needs a little more extra time to meet them!

Anyway, a big hi from me, a perhaps premature WELCOME TO THE CENTURY CLUB, and a big ole hug

I'm sure you'll make us proud.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

    Vigilance, not perfection.

      Re: Century Club Questions

Exactly what Changing said!! You posted in the century club - you are now a member Welcome!!! 100 pounds in one year is most definitely possible - but if you don't lose x# of pounds by x# of weeks try not to get dissapointed. Some months in the beginning I lost 10 pounds per month, some I lost 4 pounds, etc... it all adds up and each pound lost will make you feel a billion times better then before!! One of my favorite quotes (I dont' remember it word for word, so excuse my paraphrasing..) was "better to aim too high and fall a little short of your goal then to aim too short and reach your goal".

You'll find some times in your journey though where you're aggravated at the rate of loss the scale is telling you. Sometimes we all need to take our "breaks" from the scale and just ignore it and concentrate on other non-scale victories, such as how good your clothes are fitting, or the fact that you can now jog for 20 minutes without feeling like you're going to die.. etc.. Remember to celebrate the non-scale victories as well.

Post often, it really helps!! Welcome to the "club"

Yes, you just join by coming in and saying hello, and you can add a blinkie to your signature.

It is impossible to estimate an individual's loss rate. Sarah (iyamamaschke) took 15 months to lose 100lbs, and she worked hard at it. I have 150 to lose and have lost 26 kg (57.25 lbs) in 24 weeks. (See figures below from my spreadsheet.) I started the gym in week 8 and started work with a personal trainer there 5 weeks ago. I have dropped from size 24-26 to 16-18. I was eating about 35 g carbs a day biut have dropped myself back to 20-25 to try and kick start some mor rapid loss. Originally I set myself 12 months, but now realise it may take longer.

But your body is different to everyone else, so there is no way to predict.. It's certainly possible, it just depends how much you want to put into it and how hard you want to work (exercise wise).

        Good luck!

        Week 4 - 14 kgs (30.8lbs) lost
        Week 8 - 16 (35.23)
        Week 12 - 19 (41.84)
        Week 16 - 23 (50.65)
        Week 20 - 25 (55.05)
        Week 24 - 26 (57.25) (current week)

          Re: Century Club Questions

I think you could lose it a year, definitely. That means no cheats, though, and a lot of exercise! The more you exercise, the better you are going to look and feel, regardless of the weight. 3.5 lbs/week so far is AWESOME! But as the others said, your weight loss will vary. As you get smaller, a pound is no longer a pound. At 175, 1 lb loss is more like a 5 lb loss at a higher weight. It sounds like you are doing great so far, though, and I hope you make your goals!

            Re: Century Club Questions

Welcome. I've been here 2 years and still haven't lost my 100 pounds. LOL!!

Don't get too discouraged. It's all individual. You may get a bit side tracked, or you may just FLY thru your 100 pounds. The only real bit about posting here is that you feel you NEED to loose 100 pounds. that's it! And we take in everyone really, even those who only have 50 to loose or less...it's not about a number, it's the journey!

              Re: Century Club Questions

actually you get memebership by joining ADBB and needing to lose 100 or more pounds. of course sending diva the speedoshots for the fellows and getting the forehead tatoo helps your acceptance but they are not mandatory.

just have some fun with folk who are sharing your struggle, know where you are are and have been and will not let you get away with saying I'm too fat to exercise likethe flyweights will

                Amen, 2big!!

My body agreed with it too (the "I'm too fat" excuse) for exactly 3 workouts and then... IT BECAME FUN! Not to derail this thread, but it's so true. You can ALWAYS do some kind of exercise!

                  Re: Century Club Questions

Everyone loses weight at a different rate. It all depends on other factors as well. Drinking your water, working out regularly, following plan, and staying motivated even when the scale does not move. I was down 90 lbs within 10 months, but for the last 2 months I have been up and down the same 4 lbs. I still have another 22 lbs to lose, but I feel good about myself and how I look. The scale is not as important to me, rather the inches coming off my body, and wearing smaller sized clothing. So yes 100 lbs in a year is obtainable, but don't let it be your main focus. Setting yourself those mini goals will definately help in your success. Good luck, and you can do it if you set your mind to it!!!

Curious, where do you get the blinkies?? How do you put that in your sig? (*edit*: nevermind, found them!)

Is there an organized way on the board to pair up with a partner? Or should I just wait and see if I find someone in a similar situation as me to pair up with?

Thanks again you guys, you reinforce even more strongly my BELIEF that this time it's going to really happen!

I'm not sure if there's a place to find a partner, I hear people mention finding a Mentor, or becoming a mentor, but not much about finding a partner. I think most people join "Challenges" and work as groups. On the main forum page, go down to the miscellaneous section and look for the "Challenge" forum, and feel free to join any of the current challenges, even if they look like they've been going on for a month or to - you are usually always welcome to join! Or feel free to start your own!

Or maybe it's time for someone to start another Century Club Challenge
