Well, Kids, I am a newbie to the diet, if not to the board. I have been considering going on Atkins for some time now, but have only now found the reasons to get up off the backside and get it done.
I just recently retired from the Army, and have become the cliche that I had always feared.
Although always a big and muscular man, I've packed on forty pounds since leaving Active Duty. At 5' 8", 274 pounds is not acceptable. I was just placed on High Blood Pressure medicine. Arthritis from one too many high speed impacts with the ground is exacerbated by the weight gain, and just getting up in the morning hurts. I will soon be borderline diabetic if I don't get these pounds off.
In short, I am the perfect statistical example of the man who will drop dead of a heart attack within five years of retirement from the Service.
Forty three seems an awfully young age to go.
I've spoken with several friends who have done Atkins, taken off massive amounts of weight in fairly short order, and have kept it off for years. I'd like to be back at 170 pounds, that being the weight at which I have felt my best.
I'm told this is not only possible, but likely, using Atkins. I'm also told that this site and BBS is an excellent source of support and information for the diet.
So, ultimately, the first is what I ask for. Help.
I'm going into Induction on Friday, and I have the menus from the book, does anyone have a shopping list for that menu handy? I need to figure out exactly what I need to buy to begin.
I thank you all in advance for your support, compassion, and understanding.
CJ
