Gilbert is my friend I worry about, He has now lost 35 lbs on WW. I"m sticking to the Atkins because I know it is going to work for me and with me. Yeah, I know he's sticking out his tongue...he's my dork.

        Hi Mistics
Gil started WW 5 wks ago. Dr told him he was going to die if he did not. Gastric is an option but Gil is on perm disability, no insur. except what medical gives him.
I'm so happy for him but I fear what is going to happen. Because Gil is seriously morbidly obeese, he is losing 1) water, 2) a bit of the body fat. He has not taken the bad stuff out of his diet and right now he's counting points and still eating bad stuff that will not help his life. I have been on Atkins since Jan 3, and I've been to the Dr. once. My bp is down, my chlorestral is down and blood sugar too which I knew would happen because of reading the book. I'm hoping his is lowering also.

Yes I did Wanna. In December I gave him my copy of the book and explained what I had done a year before. He kept telling me then how much better I looked, then I fell off and gained it all back. So when I told him that I was going to begin again in Jan I tried to encourage him to do the same. He did not read the book, nor come online to check it out. OH well, I know this will work for me as it did once before. What I'm afraid with the WW is that he is not taking the bad, toxic stuff out of his life, and also I'm afraid that his vitals won't change as mine have already begun to.

Patty, its great that you are concerned for your friend. Unfortunately, we can't force anyone to try this WOE. But being your friends support system on his chosen weight loss program will help him get to a healthier place. Just losing weight should help his blood pressure and some of the other stats. I wish you both a lighter, healthier future.

That's the problem I had with weight watchers. I'd save all my points for the day and have an unhealthy big meal.

Well if he is using points correctly at least he is demonstrating some control over what he is putting in his mouth. That control can lead to all sorts of good things, like eventually choosing to up the ante on his weight loss and drop the bad stuff. It's great that you are encouraging him, and perhaps if he sees how much energy you have and how easy your menu options are he might change in time. In the mean time, at least he is exhibiting some form of control over his eating.

I agree. WW is for some people and I know some who've done well on it. I think each of us has to choose the plan that is right for us. If he can adhere to WW and use it to his advantage, then that is fantastic. Be there for him and support his decision. If he needs you or to find out about Atkins, be there for him. He can still use the ADBB forum to help him keep motivated.

                        Re: My firiend and me

Hi Patty! I know how frustrating it can be. I have a friend and her husband who are severely overweight. I worry for their health all the time. (they have 3 beautiful kids as well). I've always tried to be non pushy, only answering questions when asked. I just know no one could force me to do anything and the same applies for them. I gave them the book, i don't know if they read it or not. Her husband started to eat more low carb things but not like atkins so he keeps cheating. He has lost some weight, so its a start and i hope it motivates both of them!
Good luck to you and your friend....*hugs*

                            Re: My firiend and me

One of the biggest problems I had with WW is that I was so hungry all the time, after I used up all my points. I ate healthy, lots of veggies and lost some weight, but then I stalled and was still hungry and miserable. That may be what your friend is going through. But WW did show me that I needed to make major changes to my eating style to lose weight.

I had about given up hope on ever losing weight until I tried Atkins. Not only was it easy, but it is a great appetite suppressant plus I still get to eat many of my favorite foods (steak!). I gained control over my eating for the first time in my life and I wasn't hungry or feeling deprived anymore. And I lost weight, even with my other health issues.

But every person needs to come to this type of realization on their own. As they say, you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. The same holds true for Atkins. Most people don't believe any diet is going to work for them, thus, they are afraid to even try.

I honestly believe Atkins gives us Century Clubbers more of a leg up on losing weight because of the appetite suppressant and because it radically changes our eating habits and forces us to make better choices

I wish you and your friend the best. I know how hard it is to be that person and as well as see a good friend or loved one suffering.

                              Dear Bizzle

Thanks so much for your message. Gilbert and I spoke yesterday and he's frustrated becasue he feels just as you say - hungry. I'm there for him and hopefully he will come to Atkins way of thinking and life.
