Yeah, its been 2 years. I haven't reached goal yet, but I will.
Its been the best time of my life and the most challenging time. I have had to leave my comfort zone many times. I've pushed myself mentally and physically with exercise and a new way of thinking. I've made many new friendships. I've learned a lot about myself and my life that I didn't know before.
Instead of hiding inside a fat-life of embarrassment and low self-esteem, I now have an active life with new awareness of my responsibility to my body and my family. For the first time I am a true believer in the theory that I must take care of myself and love me before I can love and care for others. I used to do for others out of obligation, I now do for others with pride and enthusiasm.
I'd like to share what I believe to be the *keys* to making this WOE work with those who are struggling or just beginning this new adventure in their lives....
Never give up on yourself. Don't look back at mistakes, go forward to the new you. Things will happen. Things do happen. Keep going. Don't look at this as a punishment or a diet that is depriving you of anything...change your way of thinking so that you look at it as an opportunity to improve your health and your life so that you can be happier and feel younger.
Have respect for Dr. Atkins and what he's done for us. Read the book. Dr.A outlined it clearly what you can/can't eat and why. He listed all the rules, gave sound advice and lots of examples so that anyone who reads his book can connect to his plan and succeed.
Fill your mind with positive thoughts and actions. If you believe in yourself and do things that will lead you to your goal, then you will make it. It all boils down to making a written plan and following it. Without a map it is easy to get lost.
Challenge yourself. Don't let the negative thoughts and actions of others destroy your dreams. None of my friends or family thought I'd lose weight on Atkins. The secret is: Nobody is going to do it for you, its up to you to make it happen.
There are many other things to do, but those you can list in your personal plan. Like measuring, drinking water, exercising...etc. The thing that helped me stick to this WOE/WOL was to change my destructive actions and negative thinking.
ADBB is the best place I've found to meet people who are doing this WOE and sharing their time/knowledge/friendship with others so that they can become successful.
(Raising my glass of water) Here's to the rest of my life on Atkins.
