  • Doing the happy Atkins dance!!

I went in to visit my doctor on Tuesday for a check on my health progress. I've lost 70 pounds. My blood pressure is down from a prehypertensive 125/89 to 110/60. My total cholesterol is 153 with an HDL of 37 and an LDL of 100. My triglicerides have dropped from 331 to 81. My thyroid numbers are still in the normal range and I'm taking my meds regularly to keep it there. I feel great and I'm a happy camper with the diet as well. My doctor's exact advice is, "Keep doing what you are doing," which includes bacon for breakfast every morning.

I'm not sure about inches, but I've lost a couple of clothing sizes. I started at 340 lbs and I'm down to 270 lbs. I've still got a long way to go but I'm very comfortable with working on getting there.

I have a hypothyroid problem and my triglicerides were out of control. Besides thyroid replacement pills, the treatment to lower the triglicerides is a low carb diet. So, I actually have a doctor who thinks this is an excellent idea. He still winces a bit when I say I eat bacon every day, but he's really pleased I'm doing so well.

It's funny how I see nothing but success for larger folks on Atkins, and nothing but failure on Low fat/Low Cal!
