I've sorta thought, that I could still eat the way I'm eating now. It's not that bad. Pretty tasty!!

      Me too, Dave!
Now I am about to move to premaintenance Atkins, there are really not many foods I 'miss' in what I am eating now.
I have an occasional slice of wholemeal bread, half a baked potato once in a while, tried some 'lowcarb' pasta the other week without experiencing any cravings or problems, so can easily envisage eating like this for ever.
Actually unless I remind myself to eat some of the higher OWL rung foods I could easily stay on the lower rungs without missing the starchier stuff too, I seem to have got acclimatised to around 30-40 carbs intake!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Who thinks they can go back to Standard eating afterwards?

The last few months of maintenance have taught me that no - I could never go back to the way I used to eat. I was offered, I sometimes even made the food for family and friends, but when it came down to being put in front of me, I just couldn't do it. Atkins is too ingrained in me.

That said, I am also very much insistent that Atkins is NOT just Induction, the way so many make it. So in maintenance, I ate high fibre quality breads, and high fibre grains like quinoa and kasha, and super high quality 85% cocoa dark chocolate, as someone who went through all the OWL rungs and learned her tolerances. I just didn't eat them on a regular basis - usually once or twice a week - and I'd say I was averaging between 50 and 80 net carbs a day. While we shouldn't go back to the sugary crap we were eating previously, spending life eating 20 carbs and very few things from the carbohydrate ladder is just as bad, as far as I'm concerned.

As of last Friday, I'm back to weight loss mode because I'd like to lose another 10lbs. And doing quite nicely so far!

Nope I know I can't go "back" to my old ways. Now is that saying I can't eat normal? Well I tried just having a little sugar over Christmas, and found 15 pounds, so I know sugar is my absolute weakness. Can I have some grains? I'll have to attempt that experiment soon. All of OWL is experimentation. Can you have nuts, well when you get to that level, try a bit. See which ones work. I'm better with almonds, I start cravings with cashews. That's why you can spend so much time slowly moving up the rungs.

I need to get another copy of the book, my friend borrowed mine and can't find it. I want to review all the details in OWL and how to step up the layers. I am ready to skip up from level 1 with more veggies.

I am a "thin person." People tell me that all the time. "Oh, it must be nice to be naturally thin", they tell me. I say, "yes, it must be, but I wouldn't know."

4 years ago, I lost 40 pounds with Atkins. I was NOT a thin person then. I've worked extremely hard and had to stay VIGILANT each and everyday ever since to keep the weight off.

I am still battling it. Dr. Atkins said "we are never cured" and he was absolutely right. I am just a couple of sour creme donuts away from being where I was 4 years ago.

            There is no going back.

I will never go back to "normal". I would like to add rice and potatoes back into my life but sugar and flower..... only on my birthday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. I don't know if I''ll be able to pull that off but we'll see.

                Hey Chuppa Chup

ya know, I'm too 'friad to add it back to my life. I look at myself like a carbo addict, I was way out of control with it in me, so I'm going to do without it.

                Have a great weekend.
Lord, my dream is to lose this weight and to be healthier.
