  • Heat Rash

I thought I'd post this in Century Club because you guys would know what I'm talking about.

So, the summer season is here and I'm suddenly remembering one of the big reasons I didn't used to like exercise. Skin fold heat rash is such a drag... I'm bathing regularly, of course, and I'm trying my darnedest to exercise in air conditioned environments with properly fitting clothes, but wouldn't you know it, heat rash still happens... I've been treating it with Gold Bold Medicated body powder and hot baths, but I wanted to drop the question out to y'all and see if you had any good tips for me or anything to say on the subject at all.

I've fallen in love with exercise (who would have ever thought I'd say that? lol), and I don't want this to keep me from pursuing that interest through the summer.

    Thanks!

    Re: Heat Rash

did you know heat rash is actually caused by fungus growing on the skin? the best way to keep from getting it is to kill the fungus on your skin. you can use one of the strong dandruff shampoos like nizoral and wash your body in the skin folds with it while you are broken out and then once a week as preventative. Be sure you are washing your clothes every time you workout towels and wash rags too so you aren't spreading it again.

it takes a little work but once you clear it up you can keep it off.

Hmm very interesting. Disturbing, but interesting... I did not know I was attracting fungus. Good to know!

fungus are on everything they can't live there but they get on stuff and when the conditions are correct for growing poof off they go. Some Dandruff shampoos do a pH altering thingie and if you use one fo them then you got to use it daily on those ar4eas which is why i like the Nisoral you can just use a small dab only on the places you get it and then rinse it off and you are protected for days as it is long acting. Don't go wild and use a lot cause it is expensive. you can try the Head and shoulders intensive treatment stuff with the zinc and see how it works. You can also use Lamisil cream on the area or if it is really bad and reoccurs chronically ask your doc for a RZx for an antifungasl but they are tough on the liver so use them as a last resort. Once your weight is gone iof you keep getting them under the loose skin document each occurance with your doc and when he determines it is chronic your insurance will pay to get the skin removed.

            Re: Heat Rash

I have found that one of those de-odorant crystals dipped in water and rubbed over the troublesome area works really well. I'm not sure what they're made of but they're supposed to stop bacteria and fungus from multiplying that you sweat but don't stink or go rotten.

Don't use them on an area that's already damaged though, 'cos it will sting!

Try in a whole food or alternative health store.

I had a big problem with this last year. I also used the Gold Bond powder but it and every other powder seemed to irritate it. So I started putting my anti-perspirant in those areas and I haven't had a problem since.

Oh wow, putting anti-perspirant on the spot as a preventative measure... neat! That sounds like that'd really work too...

you guys have some great ideas!

Oh and 2big, thanks for clearing that up about fungus being on everything... I was beginning to worry that I was some sort of nasty fungus magnet, rather than just a voluptuous lady trying to take up jogging.

I also use the crystal deodorant and have found spraying it with lavendar water makes it even more effective. I always have a spray bottle with lavendar water on the basin side, and last year our tap handle fell off. Rather than lean over the bath I just sprayed my deodorant crystal from the lavendar water bottle, and lo and behold, it worked much better and the rash stayed away far longer. I now spray myself with the spray and then rub the crystal over it. And always spray or rinse and wipe off the crystal - if it is a fungus this stops any residue from the crystal going back on your skin the net time you use it.

I have also used a 1% steroid cream (over the counter here) - it takes away the redness within a day or two and after that use the crystal deodorant. IT cannot be used for long periods and if it does not releive it see your doctor.

I find Desitin sp? cream works great for me. Yes I know it is for babies but when your thighs catch on fire and the local firemen refuse to come blow on your inner thighs...well a girl has to do what a girl has to do.

I uhm, was using desitin, or like, any form of diaper rash thing for a bit, but if it's really bad, that'll sting like a ***** for a minute. Kinda like it does for the kiddies, but it helps. Or uhm, baby powder, and sleepin' in the buff - gives your skin some time to air out.

I would be careful using powders. Some rashes are caused by yeast on the skin. Yeast feeds on powders. So in a round about way you are feeding the beast. I was having problems until I read something about this and stopped using powders. I haven't had a rash since. I would stick with a deoderant. I have used the butt paste the pp mentioned on my sons sore butt and he didn't cry like he did from Desitin. Try some things and see what works.
