  • My Tummy Hurts :)

    Hey Everybody! Happy Wednesday!

I had a quick question. I'm on day nine of induction (my second time around on Atkins) and I've noticed that anytime after eating eggs and sometimes after eating meat my stomach starts to hurt. Usually about 10-15 minutes after eating I begin getting mild cramps. Is this normal? I don't remember this happening my first time around on Atkins. I know about the "induction flu" and maybe that's what it is, but I feel great other than the cramps. I really wish they'd stop so I could feel good about what I'm eating. Any suggestions?

It started the first day of induction. I've noticed that it seems to usually happen after eating eggs (scrambled, boiled, mixed in with tuna, anyway I eat them.) It also happens after eating red meat, but not so much with chicken.

rgg, mrat choice?? (not sure what you mean).

Could it be because I'm not drinking enough water maybe?

            Re: My Tummy Hurts

I am mildly allergic to eggs (not severely so I can still have shots etc. and no rashes etc.).

My clue was that whenever I ate them I would get a tummy ache that would last all day. I can eat things made with eggs with no problem but say for example, if eggs were in a tuna salad I would get the same tummy ache. If I notice eggs in something and I pick the white part out, I do ok so I'm thinking that it's the white part of the egg that really buggs me.

Try no eggs for a couple of days! I never eat eggs so it can be done on Atkins.

I was eating eggs for my first 2 years on Atkins, then started having problems in January with eating them. Turned out to be my gall bladder, which I had removed in February. Eggs is one of of the most common aggravators for the gall bladder. This may not be your issue.

Allergies to eggs aren't uncommon either and can cause gastrointestinal issues too.

Eggs still bother me, so I tend to avoid them. There are lots of other things you can eat on Induction thankfully.

I'd try doing without them for a few days and see how you feel.

                Re: My Tummy Hurts

Hmmm...allergic to eggs...I hadn't thought of that. Like I said I didn't have problem last time I was on Atkins (over a year ago) and ate them all the time. But I know we can develop allergies later in life.

2big...I haven't had any seafood except tuna ( with eggs in it ) so I'm not sure about that. Cheese...I'm not sure because it's usually with something else.

I think I'll cut the eggs out for a few days and see if it stops. In the meantime I'll try to be more aware of exactly what I'm eating right before it happens.

Thanks for you help guys. I appreciate it. Eggs...who'da though?

So how are you doing now? Did you cut out the eggs?

I used to get a funky feeling in my stomach after eating salads. I could eat all of the ingredients sparately but once I mixed them together in a salad, I would get a very heavy feeling in my stomach, like a huge boulder was just sitting in there. It was very uncomfortable and bordered on cramping. I haven't had a full salad since.

Hey Kate...haven't had time to tell yet if the eggs are what made the difference. Salads are my favorite and what I crave the most on this WOE. I feel sure it's not them at least I hope not!! But the way you described the feeling in your stomach is similiar to how mine feels...it's hard to explain...but yeah very uncomfortable.

                      Re: My Tummy Hurts

Hi...I have alot of tummy trouble on and off the diet. I agree with seeing how it goes giving it a break from eggs for awhile. Also if you aren't already, you might want to try taking psyllium husk, in capsules or other forms. When I get crampy, sometimes taking those adds bulk to my stomach, and eases the pain. I also have a problem eating salad. When I eat it, I cramp and run...not fun. But I'm fine without it.

                      Hope this helps.

                            Hey KKat,

Yeah I have cut eggs from my diet. I mean I still eat them if they are cooked in something but I can't eat them by themselves. My stomach has been alot better since I cut them out. Every once in awhile that same feeling comes back but I haven't quite pinpointed what else might be a trigger. Anyways, thanks for asking.
