  • Interesting talk radio about Atkins

I was listening to talk radio today while I had my leg in my CPM machine. The radio dispatcher was talking about different diets and how people are conned into spending large amounts of money to corporations that only want their money and don't care if they lose the weight.

He went on to say that ATKINS was the best diet that was ever evented. He said the only problem with Atkins was that the company became greedy and tried to immitate other weight loss programs by insisting people needed their manufactured products to do the program. He said if you read the book that Dr. Atkins wrote, you'll see that he preached you could lose the weight without those items by eating fresh meats and veggies.

He said he didn't have to lose weight, but if he did or if anyone ever asked his advice on losing weight...he'd tell them to do Atkins. I just thought this was interesting because when most shows mention our WOE, they make fun of it.

I can't believe this attacking of the Atkins diet still goes on but it does. Shows like the one you just heard are an exception. I just read the article "What if it's all been a big fat lie?" by Gary Taubes in the NY Times magazine section. What an eye opener. It concludes by having an acknowledged expert wonder "Can we get the low-fat proponents to apologize?" Madness. We've been duped all these years by bad or non-existent or misinterpreted research on diet. Making money for the cereal companies as we all got fatter and sicker. Makes me furious! My entire lifetime when you think of it... my entire lifetime I have been lied to maybe not deliberately but through outright ignorance and incompetence. Argh! I better stop now...

you have to think about this as well... where's the money in it if we're not sick? I'm not sure what the trend is now, but I've heard people talk over the last couple years that they went to the doctor and were told their triglycerides are too high, etc... and I found it strange that up until a couple years ago, it wasn't heard of that much. Why all of a sudden am I hearing a ton of people say they have it? It's like buzzwords, what's the sickness of the year?

Every single person I've heard say they had it said their doctors told them they needed a low fat low cal diet.. and I'm thinking... that's what's causing it.... People who are on atkins actually LOWER their triglycerides. My friend Scott was told his count was too high and I mentioned Atkins and he went through the roof at me. He never even bothered to read the book to see what it said about them, just blindly followed his doctors orders. Since he was told that, he's stopped biking and has gained a tremendous amount of weight as well... somethin' ain't right...

When this board was hopping a couple years ago, we were all complaining about how Atkins got to be mainstream and all of a sudden meat and dairy products skyrocketed through the roof, and they blamed mad cow disease in Canada... funny, the prices haven't gone back down even though obviously the amount of people who are on atkins has drastically dropped.

Supply and demand... it's a funny thing..... but now, the supply might be being forced upon those who believe what the media says, and the doctors believe what the media says too... or know that their customers needs for care will drop drastically if everyone was to start on atkins... which, sad to say, really was pretty much the diet of the past generation prior to box dinners and convenience desires. Meat and veggies.. ya know?

Thank god I'm more of the type to try the opposite of what they say is good for you. I thought it would be hard to stay away from pasta and bread, and after 3 weeks, I couldn't be happier. I have more energy, my body is metabolizing and I can actually feel myself getting hungry, something I haven't felt in years.
I can tell that my body isn't crashing from glucose shock, it's an amazing difference, and these doctors don't even give it a chance.

Big business in sickness. I know what you're saying jeepgirl. I was reading this other article somewhere about how drug companies are actually "inventing" diseases for us to worry about so they can throw more drugs at us... its like we're being held captive in a cage of anxiety and worry so we don't actually see the big picture. There should be a terror alert system for diet and drug company propaganda. The proof is in the pudding I guess as they say... if we lose and are healthier on this diet... what other proof do we need?
