Hey everyone! I've checkout this thread a few times and finally decided to post. When I started Atkin's I had 129 pounds to lose and now I have 98 to go. Well I thought I would stop in and say hello to everyone

Great job! You don't look like you need to lose 98 more pounds looking at your picture. You must have huge feet! He He

Whooooppeee! I remember how psyched I was when that number to lose first went under 100 lbs! Sometimes it's hard for other people to understand if they've never had that much to lose, but believe me, I get how cool it is.

I'm the same way. At 230 pounds, I look just about "normal" because it's spread out all-over, and I've got a really small waist (porportionately to the rest of me). It can be a blessing and a curse; a blessing because it's easier to be comfortable at a higher weight and therefore a delight to slim down from a higher point than someone that doesn't carry it well, a cuse because I ended up with 131 pounds to lose, which unfortunately takes a lot longer than the 40 lbs I probably would have had to lose had I not been so good at hiding the weight.

Anyhow, enough about me. Congrats to you again! You're working so hard at this and being diligent asking your questions, and I'm so glad to see you having success with this. You could be a poster child for how to get the most out of this support board.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

Re: 98 More Pounds To Lose!

Hi , I have a question for anyone who can help me? I have been diagnosed with diabetes and told to watch my carbs. the dietician said when you read a lable and it says like one serving is 1/2 cup and carb count says 15 grams, that is really only 3 carbs as it takes 15grams to make one carb? now I am totally confused. I have been counting carbs and taking it to mean if it says 15 carbs then I can only have five more for the day to total 20 carbs.. so by what I am being told now if it says 15 grams of carb.. it is only one carb? anyone ever heard this and understand it? I am so confused

No 15 grams of carbs, means 15 carbs. Unless there is a high fiber count, like say 9 of those grams are fiber, than you would count it as 6 carbs, because 15 carbs -9 fiber carbs= 6 net carbs. The reason for that is Dr. Atkins says Fiber has almost no impact on your blood sugar. EXCEPTION, in INDUCTION, which I think is where you are, I believe we are not supposed to subtract fiber. I'm not sure where your dietician came up with that system, but if you're doing Atkins, then use his formula (above). Good luck!

Re: 98 More Pounds To Lose!

As we are following the 2002 edition of DANDR here we always deduct the fibre carbs to get our net carbs in all stages of the WOE.

USA labels include fiber carbs in the total carb count, so you can deduct them when calulating your net carbs.

If you are in UK and some other countries the fibre is listed seperately from the other carbs, so our labels have already deducted the fibre carbs.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks Eli...I couldn't remember that about induction. I'm glad, because its hard when you can't deduct the fiber to stay under 20 some days!
