  • Can Anybody Out There Relate?

OKAY I'M HUGE RIGHT? I HAVE OVER 100LBS TO LOSE. IN THE MIDST OF THIS WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY, I'VE BEEN IN TERIBLE PAIN. I MEAN MY FEET, MY SIDE, SOMETIMES MY BACK AND SOMETIMES MY LEGS HURT. I MEAN I WORK STANDING ON MY FEET EIGHT HOURS A DAY AND I DEFINITELY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING ANYTHING ELSE WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK. I THINK I HAVE A HEEL SPUR THAT I THOUGHT WOULD GO AWAY AFTER I DROPPED SOME WEIGHT BUT IT HAS'NT. MY OVERALL QUESTION IS DO ANY OF YOU WHO HAVE OVER A HUNDRED POUNDS TO LOSE GO THROUGH ANY PAIN ISSUES TOO?

Oh thinner!! I can sooo relate to your frustration. When I started my weight loss journey, I had heel spurs, arthritis in both knees, back pain, feet and ankles swollen and just felt like crap.

Somehow - I got the inspiration from others who had done it and I just took baby steps. The first week out walking, I ruptured two disks in my back. I was bedridden for 6 weeks. I kept doing the plan. I had 140 pounds to lose and I was either going to die or do it.

After I went to the neurosurgeon and got cortesone shots in my back, I started back walking. I did it 10 minutes a morning at first, then up to 20, then 30. Sometimes I was in so much pain I didn't think I'd make it. I worked my way up to 4 miles a day and started doing weights and ball and swimming. Believe me, after a while it gets easier. As the weight starts coming off - you start to get lots more energy and you feel like doing more. Just keep at it. Think positive thoughts. Keep a visual picture in your mind of what you are going to look like. It will happen and you'll be so glad that you didn't give up. You can make it happen.

yep even the flyweights have pains in their joints and stuff but they keep going. check with your doctor and see if you have heel spurs or planterficiaitis which can be treated with stretching and stuff. Once you get going and keep going your body will do better.

Yes... When I started Atkins, I was just recovering from a dislocated knee a couple months before. In some respects, my first step was just to get my eating under control. Exercise is definitely part of the diet, but in retrospect, I had to get one good habit under control and in practice first. That one good habit was the progenitor of more and led to me wanting to exercise.

Start small with something you like to do. How about something non-impactful? For me it was bike-riding -- something I hadn't done in years. Speaking of pain, THAT was really painful in the wrong areas! Over time, it got easier, and that also opened up other exercises like running or weight lifting. Heel spurs I know from my wife can be painful, so you may want to ask Sombersusie about hers.

I thank God (THANK YOU GOD) that at my size - I have over 200 pounds to release - I can walk and am pain free.
My ankles - I am waiting for them to reappear so I can start swimming.
I have however had pain in the past and am very careful to not push myself to the point where I'm in it again. I do the Walking Away The Pounds video - and I spread my work out out over the day - doing a half mile at time. Its an awesome, awesome tape and is easy to do.
Everyone has given you wonderful advice - I am sorry you are in pain. I admire you for sticking it out and taking it one day at a time.

              Thinner,

If you count chafing as pain, then yeah, I'm right there with you. I only want to lose probably 80 lbs. at this point but with this heat, and sweating, and all the rubbing from my panty line (sorry guys!) is KILLING me! I use powder to dry and stay dry but with this summer heat...it just hasn't cut it. I'm so ready to GET THIS WEIGHT OFF!! Hang in there...we'll do it one pound at a time!

                Thinner,

When I first started Atkins I had a lot of pain. When I got out of bed in the morning my feet and legs hurt so badly that I could barely walk. I had to take one slow step at a time. That was a terrible feeling. Fortunately, within 2 weeks or so I was feeling much better. Hang in there and things will get much better. And I think most people here can definitely relate. Hugs

Re: Can Anybody Out There Relate?

I have pains on top of pains. My shoulder I just had surgery on a few months ago still can hurt just depending on what bra I have on. Still doing rehab on that injury which was originally caused from a fall on concrete. It really hurst when 300 pounds hits the concrete I can tell you. My knees I can actually feel and hear them creeking when I walk up stairs. I get back and neck pain too from working on a computer all day. But the good new is when I am on this woe I am in so much less pain than before. I can get thru most days without taking any pain meds whereas before Atkins I was taking pain meds either over the counter or prescription like they were candy. I thought not only am I going to have to lose 160 pounds but I am going to have to go to detox and rehab too. LOL Swimming and Water Aerobics are great for us folks with joint problems. You can exercise like you are almost weightless and it takes the stress off your joints. They are building a new 24 Hour Fitness right down from my house and if they have a pool and a Kids Club I'm joining up.

Thinner, sorry to hear about your pain. I think a whole lot of us can relate. You got some great advice and support here. Make sure you get good shoes too. I find that makes a huge difference in everything! Keep trying. You know it works and you'll just get feeling better and better!!

                    Hugs to you.

Oh boy can I relate. I have pain in my knee, my hip, I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot that has been going on now for about 8 months.

I hobble along like I am 80 when I am only 48. The pain in my left foot caused me to go to the foot doctor where they prescribed orthodics. Still can't walk right. I am so tired of this pain it is not funny. To walk even a short distance is absolute torture. Even laying in bed I grimace with pain from my hip and knee on my right side. Deep bone type of pain.

I am so motivated to lose this weight due to my pain. Pain is a great motivator. I get out of bed in the AM and actually have to stand in place for a good 3 to 4 minutes before walking. sigh...
                      Hugs,

Re: Can Anybody Out There Relate?

It must be very difficult standing on your feet all day. I started oput with 70 kgs (154lbs) to lose. I was lucky and dropped weight very quickly at the start. By end week 2 I had lost 11 kgs (25 lbs) or 15.7%. At week 8 when I started going to the gym it was 16kgs/23%. I still had pain (ankles, kneews, hips and back) but it was diminishing. Currently I am at about 36% lost and most of my pains have disappeared. I still have a bit of ankle trouble but that is from old injuries.
My exercise initially was an old 'air walker' () a non impact exercise. I used to do 5 minutes whenever I passed it and when I had worked up to 15 mins continuous I joined the gym. I can now walk 5-7 kms easily, and 12 months ago I could not have walked 1/2 km - no way.
Hang in there and it will get better.

HEY LOVETOTEST SOUNDS LIKE WE BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS WELL AS THE SAME GOAL. MY LEFT FOOT IS ALSO A MESS. MINE REALLY HURTS AFTER I GET OFF OF WORK AS I'M ON MY FEET FOR EIGHT HOURS A DAY. MY RIGHT SIDE IS VERY TENDER TOO. THAT PROBLEM JUST STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I THINK IT COMES FROM TRYING TO SHIFT MY WEIGHT OFF OF MY BAD FOOT. WELL IF YOU NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO AS I ALWAYS DO, YOU CAN PM ME OKAY?
