Betty, I dont want to hijack a thread too much, but. I have got my picture in my local newpaper as I ran the halfer for a charity. It said local runner blah blah ran the Bristol half marathon course, the gruelling 31.1 miles in 2:31. LOL thats a world record.

It's amazing to me that friends and family members first want you to lose weight for your health (sometimes insulting you to get their point across) only to admonish you for the method you have chosen to do so. No one should have to defend the way they have chosen to eat. I also fail to see how a way of eating can be a "fad"...I have seen the before and after forum and the success so many people have worked hard for. I have a friend who counts calories VERY strictly and seems to set low limits for her daily intake, but who am I to judge, or tell her that she should not eat this way?

It always amazes me how people become concerned about the nutritional value of your weight loss diet, but don't bat a eye at the diet that made you fat and unhealthy! If any of our friends slapped those donuts, cookies and cakes out of our obese hands, they would be more credible than slapping veggies, unprocessed proteins, and natural fats/oil out of our skinnier hands now.

I have to tell you, my fiance' is really supportive (even when I don't want him to be ) and he's slappin' ! LOL. We had a long discussion about how we both came to be overweight and the negative behaviors that lead us here. He isn't "ready" to do anything about it, but he has been very helpful in keeping my eye on the prize, so to speak, even when we went to the Big E, a local fair that is held every year, and known to be a huge foodfest.

I just hope that the next person that says something critical to me about doing Atkins is eating a bag of potato chips or a doughnut at the time. HaHaHaHa!!!!!!!!

Re: Atkins? That diet will KILL you!

When I went home for a vacation this spring, my family was so supportive and helpful. My mum really went out of her way to ask me about what kinds of foods I wanted and could have. She an my father have been eating on a Low GI program for a couple years now and have had great success, so it really wasn't too difficult to mesh my way of eating with theirs.

Anyhoots, we were all sitting down to breakfast one morning. I was having some left over fried zuccini and eggplant, and some bacon. My parents and sister were having BLTs on whole wheat bread. My sister asked me about the recipe for my zuccini/eggplant. "How much margerine do you use?"
"Actually, I use butter. About 2 teaspoons."
                      "Butter? Really? Why?"
                      "This program uses butter."
                      "What about Becel?"
                      "Uh...I don't know, actually. I use butter."
                      "Really?...That doesn't make any sense!"
Now I could see that I was going to have to whip out a whole Why Butter is Better Than Margerine argument. And that is just so much work for an otherwise wonderful Saturday morning. But my mum steps in.
"LOOK at her! Just LOOK! It's working. Whatever it is, it's working! She can have as much butter as she wants!"
"Would you like some more bacon?" offered my dad.

So I guess my best response to people who question this WOE is my own a ss. Or lack thereof.

(BTW...is Becel allowed on Atikins? I can't get it in Japan, but I'm just curious.)
