  • Feeling discouraged.....need help

I've been a lurker for a long time on this board and started Atkins in Jan and have so far lost 45lbs I fell off the wagon for about a month a a half and am back on ( I have to lose 100 lbs more). This is my 3rd week on induction and have only lost 2 lbs. I've been excercising 6 x's a week (this is my third week) and only 2 lbs . I think it might be muscle that I'm building because I can feel inches off my waist. I just feel so discouraged because I am working out hard and eating right and the scale isnt really moving. Anyone run into this problem ????? In fact, I'm getting ready to work out for today but I wanted to post to see if anyone can help me or give me some words of advice. I'm expecting the lbs to start melting off any day now, lol.

make friends with your tape measure so you can watch the inches of fat being shed as you morph your body adding lean body mass while burning off the fat.

congrats on getting back on track!

      Welcome Aboard!

Are you taking any medications or have medical problems (like PCOS) that would make weight loss slower?

If you click on the "forums" button above in the blue toolbar you will find one called "Review My Menu" and you can post what you are eating there so the vets can see if there is something stalling you.

I'm glad you're here and hope you start a journal so everyone can stop in and "visit".

I totally agree with 2big. The tape measure can be your friend when the scales aren't. It helps to see the inches melting off - and is a big way to stay motivated.

What helps me is to get involved in the forums, do challenges, try new exercises. Talking to the others here in ADBB helps. Are you using fitday to calculate your food intake?

Remember not to compare your weight loss to any one else - you are unique and you will make it happen.

KKAT I suspect that I might have PCOS, I'm going to make an appt with my doctor to get checked. My sister has PCOS and I seem to have a lot of the symptoms. The only thing I've had checked is blood sugar which is normal since I have diabetes in my family gene. My father passed away at the age of 49 from complications to diabetes. This is my main reason for getting healthy

Thanks you all for the sugesstions, I just got through measuring myself and wont get on the scale or check my inches for a while, otherwise, I will get discouraged. I know one of my biggest challenges has always been drinking enough water, I try oh so hard to drink as much water as possible.

I will try and get myself set up on the boards and will eventually get the courage to post some pics Getting ready to watch the biggest loser, I love that show, inspiring. I will try and post more often, it helped to just read your replies...thank you all again

            Re: Feeling discouraged.....need help

Look in my signature area and there is a link to our PCOS forum. You may find some helpful info there.

From the research I've done it seems that low-carb is the way to go to help improve the symptoms, so you're on the right track. Weight loss may be slower, but you're improving your life and lessening your chances of getting so many other diseases from the PCOS (if you have it).

So, please don't look at this as weight loss, but getting healthier. If you lose weight, then it is just an added benefit. Focus on the eating and exercising and you will get to where you want to be because this will become part of your life.

            You can do this!

My advice...get off that scale! Join us in the No weigh challenge over in the Challenges forum. I also HIGHLY recommend a book by Bob Greene - Total Body Makeover. You're already doing a lot of it by exercising 6 days a week but he addresses the type of exercise and what happens to your weight loss when you begin an exercise routine. He says to stay off the scale for AT LEAST 8 weeks because your body is hanging on to water to hydrate your muscles and that people often get discouraged because they're working so hard and not seeing those results initially. Hang in there...you are doing GREAT!!

              Current Stats 47% Body Fat/Goal is 30%
Not going to be a slave to the scale in 2007!

How long can you hang on to water? I actually gained 2lbs this week but thought it would have flushed by now. The odd thing is, I actually feel like I lost inches despite the gain.

                  Re: Feeling discouraged.....need help

Thank you all for your words of support, it really does help. I am taking it one day at a time and I'm going to keep going. I figure if I stick to eating right and excercising my body has to give in and the weight will start to come off. I am doing better with the water, that's one challege I've always had is the water. Thanks again to everyone who responded to my post...

Congratulations on doing better with your water! That's a great step in the right direction.

                    Keep up the good work!
