  • Thoughts on Oprah

I was feeding the baby the other day and flipped through the channels and saw the Oprah show. She and her friend were travelling across America in a Chevrolet.

They stopped at a small malt shop and I was very shocked and dissappointed that she was sitting there ordering malts, every flavor of ice-cream and talking about how she was on vacation. Doesn't she remember the fat days????? She has a lot of shows about weight loss and how it has to be a change of life-style - yet on her road trip she threw her life-style out the window and gave in to temptation. So sad.

I guess her weight loss was just a 'diet' - not a real life life-style change.

There's lots of things about Oprah you'll find out about watching that show, that might surprise you. She's not always as sweet and wonderful as she portrays herself on her talk show.

Seeing that and knowing her goal for the trip was to lose weight while her friends was to gain only 5 pounds instead of her usual 10 seem a contridiction. Oprah was even saying they got to get to the gym and workout so she can.

I was pretty surprised at that actually...she's a way bigger diva than I had imagined.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't really think it's the worst thing in the world to cheat while you're on vacation. As long as vacations are like a once in a year kind of thing. I did go on an alaskan cruise and didn't cheat once, so I know it's possible to enjoy vacations without cheating.... but I have also been on other vacations "cheated" and got right back on when home. I look at vacations like little bubbles in which to leave reality. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong, but it's all about personal choices and finding what works for us right? If that's what works for Oprah then good for her, she's enjoying her life and she goes back home, gets back on track and is fine, then not really our place to judge.

We don't get to see that much of her over here. But I lose patience with talk shows like that half the time, I am actually quite a cynic and think that most of the audience members are actors / actresses that have been planted.

Just like on the Jerry Springer show! (are there really people out there like that?)

Yes... I have relatives that have been on the Jerry Springer show. They do exist.

                So they aren't actors then?

I saw Jerry Springer when I went to the independant film theater in Sarasota. Who knew Jerry liked indie films? I would expect him to be more of a "girls gone wild" type of guy.

I guess its just the way I saw it. I was shocked because anytime I've heard her show about weight loss, she is the one to emphasize that it is a life-style change. Then, she goes on vacation goes back to her old self. I agree that those shows are somewhat questionable to get attention and higher ratings, but I'm still surprised.

                        It does sound dissapointing.

There is talking the talk, and walking the walk.

This is why I don't like 'diet mode', I prefer 'lifestyle mode'.

Yep, when I was in my diet mode years, I was always frustrated, miserable and felt deprived. Now that I've committed to a life-style change, I am satisfied and feel confident in my choices.

She has always gone up and down; must be nice to have trainers and personal chef to help you drop those sugar pounds.

                              Re: Thoughts on Oprah

i find this thread very disappointing, i know this may upset some people. Oprah is human just like the rest of us, many people here have been struggling to lose weight for years and years just as she has and we all have gone off the wagon etc. i don't think its fair that anyone here would down a person who fell off their choosen lifestyle plan simply because she is a celebrity.

I don't see anyone here who can throw stones. Just because you are doing good now doesn't mean you always did or have been or always will. How can anyone here expect a person to be perfect in their weight struggles when no one here can ever say they are perfect in theirs?

I would think instead of downing her, people would wish her support and route for her to get back on her plan and get to the gym etc.

i am sorry but this thread was very disappointing in its judgments and unforgiving attitudes. Celebrities struggle just as much as the rest of us with life issues including weight loss and maintaining a perfect image at times, i sure hope there are none on this board here for support in their struggle with losing weight after reading this thread.
