Hooah for figuring out what was underlying all of it. That just goes to show where the today's doctors are in terms of knowledge. When all you ever dealt with is hammers and nails, the screws really mess you up. I don't know what the solution as trying to tell the past doctors only interferes with their god complex and falls on deaf ears.

        Re: I am Frankenstein's Monster.

Dear Dave, You are amazing! as for Predisone Yes I know what that is! that is the drug my Rheumatologist wanted me to take faithfully everyday for my Rheumatoid Arthritis! I told him no way! He didn't like it because I wasn't being a good obedient patient. Furthermore, on top of Predisone he wanted to give me some other RA drugs, with added side effects much worse than my RA! When I pointed this out to him, he said if Iyou don't the pain will continue and you will be in a wheelchair within 10 years! So this is what you have to do.

Well I went to a pain management clinic got painkillers, for my back pain, and I researched all the nutritional avenues to help my condition, and now I am taking about 25 different vitamins and minerals a day. Guess what I am better. In fact much better than I have been in ages.

I didn't read your whole blog but your photos are amazing, once I saw the word Predisone I had to throw in my 2 cents.

All in all you have done an amazing job. Bless You and Good Luck , Pru

P.S. now that I'm calm enough I'll go read the rest of your blog.

          Re: I am Frankenstein's Monster.

I'm not sure I'd agree with you that the doctors made you fat, but since the alternative was to allow you to die your doctors did the right thing for your health. Death from childhood asthma is the 5th most common cause of death excluding human caused deaths in kids so treating it is a serious business and medical personel need to use the best posible medication for airways. They have now discovered inhaled steriods that will not cause the side effects you listed but back when you were a kid they didn't exist.

          How can you say
Effectively I have steroid induced Glucose intolerance
          Since the JK site says
glucose intolerance stops when the dose is stopped or lowered
and you don't take them all the time. You could correctly say you had this conditron when taking the meds, but how did you not shed the pounds when off the stuff if this stuf was the only causal factor in your weight gain? Since you were ill and out of school we would have to assume you were in bed and not very active at all yet still eating your normal amount of food making the weight gain while ill a cummulative effect of your conditon not just the predinsone.

the metabolic pathway you quote from wiki is actually the pathway used by Atkineers for the needed glucose for body parts not containing mitochondria, so if you have been eating Atkins back then it would have help you shed pounds if you had been able to be active too.

There are folk taking many meds for medical conditons that effect metabolism of glucose and make weight loss more difficult for them but they do lose the weight when they try.

            Re: I am Frankenstein's Monster.

Ok I just read your blog and I feel awful about the way the doctors treated you, and your poor mom There are so many doctors out there, that are horrible, and worse, incompetent. Sadly they get away with it, because decent people put there trust and lives in their hands, believing they know what they are doing. I could go on and on about this! This is a sore subject for me. But this is not about me this is about you and your wonderful blog. I sincerely enjoyed it. It is filled with so many informative facts and also a lot of fun. You did a fantastic job. Thanks so much! Re: I am Frankenstein's Monster.

              Thanks guys!

              2big,

They said that this 'usually' goes away.

The fact of the matter is that I had a weight problem there on and for the rest of my life.

Nobody else in my family, 2 brothers and 1 sister had this. In fact they were all skinny.

I am really sesnitive to carbs. There is more to the story like being prescribes a low fat, low calories diet.

              The drugs started me out.
