  • Getting through the holidays

With the holidays approaching, family gatherings, parties, office celebrations...I thought it would be a good idea for us all to share the plans we are making to get through it without jeopardizing our WOE.

I'm going to a Halloween party with my group and I'm taking a tray of meatballs. I'm melting some cheese and using a decorating tube to decorate each meatball as an eyeball. lolol I tried it already and it turned out really creepy.
    -------------------------------------
What I'm making for Thanksgiving is Atkins friendly, turkey, mashed cauliflower, italian green beans, and toss salad. (I'm not real fancy).

My kids are going to bring mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, biscuits and pie for themselves and families). We are also going to go up to the center and help with serving the people who come in for a hot meal.
    --------------------------------------
My husband and I've been invited out for Christmas meal so haven't found out what they are having yet, but I will. I'm planning to have a day during the Christmas break to take the boys sleigh riding and we are going to a Christmas parade where we walk around town with Santa. So that will be good exercise and fun.

Let's hear some of the plans you've all made for this special time of year.

I love your eyeball meat balls I hope you have added it to our recipe section and alerted a cooking mod so it can be added to the holiday cooking mod posting only Naja started yrs ago.

I'm taking Mother to see family for Christmas and the hotel has a great breakfast with reall eggs bacon ham sauage and fruits to go with all those pastries and waffels.
I'm cooking turkey and veggies for Thanksgiving and since I'm a carboholic not making any low carb desserts.

For Halloween we will be staying home and I'm only buying cand with soy in it so I can resist casue I'm allergic, now i think I will cook some halloween eyeballs for dinner.

Don't have any special plans yet, as my boyfriend and I are 2000 miles away from our families! For thanksgiving, we'll have a small traditional dinner--turkey, green beans, I think I'll try mashed cauliflower (haven't made it yet) and some pumpkin custard. Nothing really wild.

Christmas...this is going to be a tough one (OK well not that tough) but I'm going to have to think of a lot of substitutions. In the past, along with the "good" foods like ham or turkey and relish trays, I've made sugar cookies, homemade chicken noodle soup, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. Let's not forget all the wine served with dinner! So I think I'll keep it to meats, veggies, fresh fruit and cream (I'll be on the berries rung by then) and some wine to celebrate. Mmmmm I can't wait!

Could you take pictures of your eyeball meatballs? They sound really cool!

I'll take some pictures when I make them for the party. They are creepy looking. I make some cross-eyed, some evil looking and some just plain. I put them on stems of celery and that keeps them from rolling. lolol
