  • Long Haulers losing focus?

I don't if there are many long haulers here.

There are a few success stories though!

Have you had challengers to your motivation levels half way through?

I've been going since July 2005 - 141 pounds so far.

    I'm about 50% done.

Have you found that you need to re-motivate yourself??

I'm still here and focused. This time around healing my PCOS has been my focus, so I plan to be here for the long haul. So far, I'm a few weeks over three months cheat free. Yippee!

Dave I've been here since 2/2004 and my personal motivation wanes and waxes. But I figure it's better than the alternative, going backwards.

So there are days where I know I'm over my carb amount and days where I am under. I promise myself I'll go back to induction but I haven'tl I like that I can still do this for years and keep my weight off.

I keep surprising friends with new recipes that they're AMAZED are low carb. I took mock fried rice to a party (grated cauliflower, low salt soy sauce and sesame oil) and no one could tell!

So to answer your question, yea, sometimes it's hard to be motivated, but it's my lifestyle now. My food choices aren't the problem, it's more making sure I get in ALL the water or ALWAYS getting in my exercise.

since I ran from my old 313 pound self all the way to goal I never needed to refocus but amy foolk get so overwhelmed by how well thewy have done as they lose the big numbers they forget to lock in on the gola and get distracted by the huge success they have already had.

one way to fix that is to change the pounds lost from your very bigging weight to your current weight and be a newbie to the weight loss excited over every pound and inch again as if you had never been bigger then your cuyrrent weight and never been the big loser you aalready are.

I've been here since 3/04. I've shed 115 pounds, and I'm still motivated as much if not more than when I first began. To me, every pound is just as exciting now as it was when I first began.

              Re: Long Haulers losing focus?

Wow, I guess I am a long hauler. I haven't strayed from the program. A few cheats here and there, but I've never been out of control, nor have I missed eating the old food, nor do I feel deprived. As many people, including Dr. Atkins have told us, it's a change of life to a new Way of Eating. It's a Way of Life.

I was talking to my mom a few weeks ago about this and dieting, comparing it to those who did gastric bypass and how many those who have surgery often regain the weight because they don't change their habits and/or they have difficulty eating certain foods at all and other issues.

I think I've gotten the better deal, even though weight loss is slow, I can still eat whatever I want *if* I really want to. Fortunately, what I want to actually eat has changed so that I no longer really want those foods anymore, or I know the impact that certain foods will have on how I feel. It took me years to put on these pounds, it's going to take that long to take it all off.

As for motivation, since my eating habits have changed, motivation hasn't been very difficult to come by. I just keep doing what I'm doing. I'm rewarded by the comments I receive, by having to go shopping for smaller sized clothes, and by donating clothes that are too big for me and I'll never wear again to charity.

I think the longer you do this, if you make the mental change that this is the best way to eat for your body, the easier it becomes.

                  Me? Lose focus?

Nevah! I think sometimes it seems like it's a quagmire of fatty fatness, so at those times I choose some small, meaningless weight goal (maybe 10 pounds) and go for that. Get enough of those little goals put together and I lost 115 pounds!

It really adds up, and you're all doing so very well!
