    Re: 300 Pounds Chat

    Thanks for sharing.
I, too have, on ocasion, gazed at my reflection naked, but it was only ever to beat myself up emotionally and to try to disgust and shame myself into starting yet another diet. (and of course none of the diet attempts worked because I was always hungry).

I know that a lot of 300 plus folk are caught in a cycle of being unable to exercise because they are too tired, too bloated, too lethargic. You have to eat right to get the energy back before you can start to exercise.

I dont understand your siggy line about not giving males any Atkins advice.

I need to modify this...I got a bit upset with men on the board sending me PMs wanting Atkins advice or menu advice. Why come to me? There is a whole board you can ask. I just assumed they wanted to get to know me. Maybe I am wrong...

            Re: 300 Pounds Chat

I read this post with great interest. I admire everyone's honesty (and heartache). I started not quite over 300 (high was in the low 280s), but I certainly saw it looming on the horizon and felt many of the things you've all felt.

While I never want to diminish ANYONE's goals, I have to agree that needing to lose 100+ pounds just feels like a whole different ball game than 20 or 30 pounds. Here's a selfish confession: when I look at people's current weight on the board -- especially those with less to lose -- sometimes it's hard for me to be overly sympathetic (especially when they refer to how fat or flabby they are) because I think to myself, "I'd kill to be that weight!!"

Of course, everything is relative. And I do respect everyone who has come here to address their own issues with weight and become healthier. I know that I, too, someday will have only 20-30 pounds left to lose, and those 20 pounds will be just as consuming to me as 100 are to someone else. But still, having SO much looming in front of us makes it incredibly hard to stay focused. I feel that way with 120+ pounds to lose. For those who have more, I can certainly feel your pain.

I'm so glad we all found this place -- and each other.

I guess I shouldn't assume, that's unattractive, but why wouldn't a man go to someone like Kent or Rich for advice? That would be more appropriate, since men lose weight differently than women.

Actually, 2big, honestly, I don't mind at all getting PMs from gals, but I am just uncomfortable getting PMs from guys. It's usually ones I have never conversed with at all on the board. I just feel better not PMing men, accept Rich or Ken, they are Admin and I have conversed with them on the boards before.

More issues with being realllllly overweight.

                    1. Skin tags. Nothings more attractive than having little nodes of skin everywhere. It makes you feel like Pinhead from "Hellraiser", only without the billing.

                    2. Sores that burst open. You know the ones. Your skin is pulled so taut and then becomes so thin that sometimes it just splits open at the stretchmarks. So you have to use bandages to keep yourself together. Splitting at the seams is reality sometimes!

                    3. Butt shelf. The kind that you could house an entire display of Area 57 lighted houses on at Christmastime, hang stockings from, and still accomodate all the foosball trophies your spouse has amassed. Since 1962.

Hello, I too am over 300 lbs. At least for another 9 lbs I am!!!

My heaviest was this past July when I gave birth and I was around 370. That was the estimate the anesthesiologist gave when he was determining how much medicine to administer during my c-section.

After giving birth, I didn't weigh myself. I decided to weigh myself the day I started Atkins. 10/14/06 I was 334 and five weeks later I am now 309.

It is extremely tough giving up the foods I enjoy, however, I am committed and can actually do this way of living because I am not left hungry. All diets in the past left me starving and I would always quit and eat more and more.

I welcome all questions and comments. Good luck to everyone.

                                Hey everyone!

I've just read through this thread and I just had to add to the others who have said that you guys really are an inspiration. It puts my grumbles about 'having' to do exercise into perspective.

I'm also relieved to hear I am not the only person on the planet to experience thigh chaffage - I have never mentioned it to anyone and have quite a collection of under skirt shorts and leggings. I have had it for years even though my maximum weight was 216 - I think my thighs are just a bizarre shape, designed to annoy...

Best of luck with all your weight loss - it's great to see such success
