  • NOT about Water!

The good news is that I haven't gone to the store and bought cigarettes in over 3 weeks. The bad news is that I'm still not losing anymore weight. So I thought I'd make a post today about what I've accomplished lately.

    I've quit smoking.

I'm learning more about heart healthy nutrition.

    I'm learning patience (yet again).

I've found that I don't hate all wine. (Trying it because it's supposed to be heart healthy to have a glass each day).

Other than that, I got nuthin'.

So what have YOU accomplished lately?

    Kate,

My goodness, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO proud of you!!!! That is a great accomplishment. That's a LOT to be proud of. When I quit in july I gained 8 lbs right away and it took me almost 12 weeks to get it back off, so don't stress over it too much. It's your metabolism slowing. Take this time to make friends with some sort of exercise. I started RUNNING....HOLY CRAP lol! Heal those lungs and heart by finding something you enjoy and start doing it....if only to prove to yourself that you can.

If you ever need an ear, I'm just a PM away. I found all sorts of comfort and help from www.whyquit.com There's some interesting reading on that site.

        Re: NOT about Water!

I think I'm coming to terms with the fact that I am not meant to be thin. BUT I also know that I am not meant to be this large either. I have a list of things about myself that I'd like to improve on. My weight was the number one thing on that list. Because of circumstances here at home, quitting smoking became number one instead, pushing my weight to down to #2. I'm not happy about that because now I have even more weight to lose because of quitting. I'm doing my best not to be angry over that and to use it as an excuse to smoke again. I know I will lose at least MOST of what I want to lose eventually. I just thought I'd be there by now. Heck, it's been a couple of years! I'm hanging in there though, trying to be positive. Exercising as usual hoping to take my mind off the smokes.

You will start losing again as long as you stick with it. Congrats on not smoking that is a huge feat in itself! Keep up the great work.

            Doesn't quitting feel great?
I smoked my last cigarette 52 days ago. I've already saved more than $200 and 5 hours of my life, or so Quitnet.com tells me.

Congratulations on your quit, and on your healthy attitude!

Great job on quitting!! I pulled a Joy and started running when I quit...

Ummm.. about the wine thing... if you're drinking a glass a day, your body might be working that off instead of working off more fat....

"The number one thing you can do for you health is to quit smoking. The rest will come."

(This is soooo true in my situation!)

I quit on 3/4/07. It was hard at first, but got easier as the days went by. Now I'm restarting Atkins and can actually breath well enough not to cough up a lung while on the treadmill. I also never realized just how damn good my shampoo smells and my non smoking bf likes kissing me more.

In order to get over my cravings, I cheated like crazy. My reasoning is this... It's easier for me to get over carb cravings than nicotine addiction. I had to quit the cigs first, then go back to Atkins. So far, so good. I gave myself a month to detox from the cigs.

**I'm not recommending falling off Atkins to quit smoking.. I had fallen off Atkins about 2 months before I quit. Smoking is a terrible addiction worse than food IMHO. Do what works for you and check out the amazing support groups the internet offers. Just being able to smell and breath again is good enough for me.
