  • Has Anyone Had Luck With Combining Atkins With Another WOE?

    Hi All:

Took a two-week break by going to Weight Watchers, and lost 4.8 pounds. I actually lost 5.2 but in the second week put on 4/10s of a pound.

I zigged to WW and am zagging back to Atkins to see what happens.

I was very happy with my "break" because I wasn't losing actual pounds on Atkins, and the WW regimen knocked me off my plateau.

I lost a ton of inches on Atkins and some nice poundage on WW, so I was wondering if anyone has had success with alternating between Atkins and other plans.

I have 100 pounds to lose.

    Thanks!
    Started again: 10 November 2007!

    No stats for two weeks.

Not to sound like a snot, but if you combine anything with Atkins, it's not Atkins.

I'm not an expert, but I'm afraid you may be hurting yourself in the long run. Count points or count carbs, whichever you choose. It's your world. I just urge you to choose one or the other.

Whichever plan you choose, I wish you success.

If you've read the book you'll understand why it's important to follow Atkins as closely as possible... The Atkins lifestyle has many more benefits other than just weight loss.
I say chose one or the other.
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

      Officially Re-Focusing on 12-28-09.

      Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

      so:
      Restart Progress:
      12/28/09 ~ 235.1
      01/04/10 ~ 229.0
      01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
(Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)
      01/18/10 ~ 227.4
      01/5/10 ~ 226.8
      02/01/10 ~ 222.6

        Hi RMedusa,

I can see why you'd be tempted to consider this after the success this week, but I'm pretty sure that this is a short term affect and in the long run this would not work and could potentially damage your health.

If you go in an out of ketosis in can make it far less effective - your blood sugar would be all over the place which could lead to problems with weight loss. Your body wouldn't no what was going on a might cling to excess weight, which is never a good thing

I agree than yiou need to chose one path. Which is obviously up to you but most of us here firmly believe that Atkins is effective and can be a great alternative to counting calories which can be tough. Not that Atkins is a breeze, but in comparision it is to me.

It might be worth addressing why you had a stall in the first place. Are you eating as the book dictates? Did you have a fully clean induction? Are you exercising? Etc. You could post a menu in the 'Review My Menu' section to see what the problem might be. If you need any help, simply ask - there is a great deal of knowledge on this site.

However, you must decide which route to chose yourself. Best of luck

If weight loss is the only measure of success I suggest sever calorie starvation and possibly amputation.

If it's long term compliance and health, then the Atkins plan is a recipe for success.

Success meaured in all the health benefits like: prevention/treatment of diabetes, cure for sleep aponea (in some cases), no need for days off work and doctors visits becaus eyou are rarely sick, reversal of fatty liver condition. Just to name a few.

Remember, over-weight or over-fat is a symptom rather than a cause.

            I like the amputation theory.

People have gone on about how they "shock their system" for a weekend or whatever repeatedly. I've been on this board a long time, a lot of them disappear. Atkins as a whole is a Way Of Life. Not a week of life. Weight Watchers cuts calories. Just because you do not count calories with Atkins does not mean they're not important. If you switch around, chances are you will lose water, gain water, whatever. Yes, you'll lose some real weight, but I'm not sure it's the weight you want to lose, and in the end, most people who switch back and forth end up falling off the wagon, to either never been seen again, or return years later saying, why oh why?!

100lbs isn't a small amount. It takes hard work, no matter what plan. Making Atkins be your way of life, something you turn to, instead of twinkies, is what makes it work, not jumping back and forth or saying, oh, this can be a WW week so I can have that cake for my birthday.

I'm not trying to be harsh. I've lost over 100lbs with Atkins. I know you can too. It's frustrating to me personally, to see people want to give up when I know they can succeed just by sticking to it.
