  • Share your snack ideas!

As people having more weight to lose than others, we come to Century Club for that extra support from people who truly understand what it is to lose 100, 200 or more pounds. And historically, Century Club has been a place where people of all sizes can find some sound advice and support.

So, I'd like to ask you all what are your "go to snack" ideas? After three plus years, I've gotten so that for me, it is all about planning. I plan so that I always have a snack that is easy to eat on the run.

Personally, I go through phases with snacks. Hard boiled eggs are always a staple for me. I boil a dozen or so eggs on the weekend and use them throughout the week for a quick brekkie or snack or on a salad or use them for deviled eggs or make an egg salad and use celery dippers with it.

I also like chicken wings and manage to steal a few for my snacks from hubbies football food stash! He doesn't even realize that he's eating low carb. If I told him he wouldn't believe me.

I make some meatballs with hamburger, some onion, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, chopped celery and an egg for a binder. Even have hidden a little cheddar cheese in the middle of them. Use your imagination and put anything you think should be in a meatball as long as it is Atkins friendly. The nice part is that they freeze well and thaw quickly.

What are some of your ideas? In my mind, we can never have too many!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

I do the hard boiled eggs too! There is something about the texture of them that satisfies my junk food/dessert cravings. I LOVE the meatball idea. I never even thought of that. Tomorrow I am going to make some up... Thanks for that idea!!!

I like to merinate chicken breast cut into strips in low sodium soy, fresh ginger, and splenda brown sugar. Put on bamboo skewers and bar-b-que. Meat on a stick, yum! It's great with beef too. Great food for on the go, good hot or cold.

                Re: Share your snack ideas!

For on the run snacks...I always have little 'baggies' of snacks made up. It depends on what I have as to what is in them. If I have leftover porkchop or chicken from dinner the night before...I'll cube them in the baggie for a quick snack to grab either when I'm busy at home or to run out. I have a small igloo cooler with the blue ice that I take with me in the car when I'm going to be out for a while. I pack water and maybe jerky too so I'm never caught off-guard.

I do the boiled eggs occassionally. I also have veggie baggies - celery, green/red peppers, onions, radish, and whatever I can find. I bag them up when I get home from the grocery store as I put them in the frig...that way there is no excuse that I don't have time to fix them up.

I do the pizza burgers, the pepperoni chips and cheese chips for nights when the family is getting together for movies/pizza or games.

I make tuna salad and sometimes eat it on celery sticks.

One of my favorites is chicken wings. Love them!

I'm sure there is lots more, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.

I like cheese "chips". You get some grated cheddar and microwave--let cool and break into chips.

                  Yum.

                      Re: Share your snack ideas!

                      what a great thread idea!!!

                      I just wanted to add.....

My absolute favorite is a slice of pickle rolled up in a piece of ham with cream cheese on it. You can also subsitute the pickle with a green onion
My sister in laws husband also adds a little bit of horseraddish in the creamcheese and it is really delicious, and we all know horseraddish+possible wooshie!!! When I fist hear there was horse radish in it, I never though I would try it, but it really is yummy!!!

On thing I like to do, and I rotate snacks every week..I make these cheesecake muffins. YUM!!!

                      2 8oz packs of CreamCheese
                      1/2 cup of splenda
                      2 Lg eggs
                      and 1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla

Sothen the creamcheese for about 45 seconds..then add all the ingredients together. Then beat it w/ a mixer until it's nice and smooth and pour it into muffin tins lined w/ the foil cups or paper cups.

Bake about 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. And they are really yummy even after a few days, as long as they are in a sealed container..it seems like they are even yummier!! Enjoy!

For the pepperoni chips, I put slices of pepperoni on a plate. Microwave them for about 35 seconds. Take out and let it sit for few minutes till they cool off. They are crunchy and you can eat as they are or dip them.

For the cheese chips, I shred cheese in little mounds on the plate, again microwave till they melt. Take out and let them cool. Pick up and eat as a chip. You can also make big mounds and use it for taco shells.
