  • LEXAPRO USERS, PLEASE READ & RESPOND

I take Lexapro for anxiety and have for about six months or so... I am seeing several people post that Lexapro causes weight gain. I had never realized that may be an issue with me and my weight gain. I just chalked it up to falling off the wagon and eating yucky carbs I shouldn't.

Woudl you please respond and share your thoughts with me on whether you yourselves have noticed that taking Lexapro in the past or currently using it contributes to weight gain for you..

I am really interested in finding out what others think.

Maybe it will help me determine what I should do.

Well, I take Zoloft for the same thing. I can't speak specifically for Lexipro, but it seems that all/some/most anxiety/depression drugs can mess with your weight either by weight gain or weight loss. I don't think it's something you need to worry about. I spoke to my doctor and he said "Are you eating too much?" "Yes, way too much" "Then don't worry about it"

That was the end of that, LOL. If you are concerned... talk with your doctor. But for us in the Century Club, I don't think that any drug is going to pack over 100 lbs on us. I would imagine it might pack on 15 lbs to a skinny person or something. Just my thoughts

Hi, I just posted my own thread on this issue and am curious if anyone else is having this problem.

My doctor wants to take me off Lexapro if I can't stop gaining weight in the next 4 weeks. Dang it!!

I'm back up to my heaviest weight, which is depressing enough!

        Grrrrrr

Re: LEXAPRO USERS, PLEASE READ & RESPOND

Hi there! I'm on Lexapro and have been for about the past 5 months. I have gained about 20lbs so far. The problem is, I've had so much going on and so many bad habits and stuff that I can't pinpoint Lexapro being the problem. I stopped taking it for 2 months because I figured that was the reason, but I didn't lose any weight, and my anxiety returned, so I started taking it again. It is certainly frustrating that I am eating well, exercising a lot, and I've been gaining weight.

Other factors I've had to deal with were:
          - Anxiety itself
          - falling off the wagon a little (atkins)
          - Drinking too much alcohol
          - Constant traveling for work

So as you can see, it's tough to figure it out. I just wanted you to know you weren't alone!

Yep, Higgies, me too!! The weight gain is making me feel anxious and depressed as well -- of course, the last thing I want to do is up my dosage!

            Thanks,

Yeah, I don't have any depression, just major anxiety and mini panic attacks...too much stress and stuff combined with a high-strung type A personality...lol!

Oh well...after I stopped taking it and symptoms returned I figured I'd rather be not feeling nuts and have a few extra pounds.

Re: LEXAPRO USERS, PLEASE READ & RESPOND

I've been on Lexapro for almost 2 years, with a side of klonipin. Anyway, I went to the doc when I noticed I'd packed on about 30 pounds. Basically put, I have a nervous stomach and a psycho ex, so I had lost about 20 pounds from stress etc. When I got on Lexapro, the doc basically said, by making me calm and normal, I got to where I could eat and keep stuff down, and started to socialize again, which in our society consists of eating out, eating at friends' homes, going to the movies with the jumbo popcorn, and of course dinner beforehand, etc.

The doc basically told me to get my butt to exercise and eat lots of vegetables.
