  • I have been thinking about exercise challanges!

Let's be really honest if some of us are this weight we know we got here by a combination of poor food choices and little exercise. I think that alot of the regular challanges would be to much for me and I will be honest I would eventually give up. I think we should have some special exercise challanges here.
What about you guys????????? Any Suggestions.
I have some thoughts like a - Get Off Your Butt Challange

I think the exercise challenges are what you make of them. The more overweight or out of shape someone is, they should start slow, safely and be reasonable.

A 25 year old who needs to lose 25 pounds may do 100 crunches/push ups/squats a day and jog 3 miles.

Someone older/heaver (whatever the situation they maybe in) may just want to start trying to slow walk 5 minutes a day 3 days week and build from that. I think the challenges are good for getting people in a routine that promotes their health and learning to make good choices. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS TO START OFF SMART/SAFELY and make it attainable and something they can accomplish. Just my two cents.

Re: I have been thinking about exercise challanges!

I'm hosting the November Mileage challenge - weigh 385 pounds and completed my goal of 150 miles for the month already.
        Its all in the attitude.
I don't think that we need special exercise challenges here - we can join the ones on the board - just be wise about how we challenge ourselves. We know what we can do and what we can't. For me, floor exercises right now are a no no - because its hard as he11 to get up off the floor at this weight. Eventually I'll be able to do them, but right now I know there is no way. So while I am in the push up challenge, I am doing counter push ups - and I do 20 a day. Its not much, but its a start.
Everyone here is welcome to join the November Mileage Challenge - pledge what you feel you can do and go for it!
I'm sure if you did a thread for Get Off Your Butt Challange you'd have some takers! Give it a go and see what happens

Hey Austlyn, I think this challenge would be great b/c we could each pledge to do a certain amount of the exercise of our choice. I checked out the challenges in the "exercise challenge" forum and most were for specific exercises (squats, stability ball, abs, mileage, push ups, etc.) Some of us can't physically do push-ups and such. This way we could all be in a challenge together, encouraging each other to get off our butts, but we could make our own goal for the month. (ex. I pledge to take 20 gym classes in December, or I pledge to walk for 20 minutes/4 days a week in December, or whatever we choose.) Is this what you had in mind?

I see Lady Hawkes point about joining the regular challenges on the board and just making realistic goals, but at the same time, having a small group of challengers in the CC might be just what we need to motivate us to get off our butts. PM Jimmie48 and see what she thinks about it(she's the challenge moderator).

Everyone makes an excellent point here. Get off our butts Challenge with our own pace of exercise of choice. As long as we're up and moving, thats what counts. I'm game! I'm planning on picking up a set of resistant bands on my next trip to town. That and working out on my gazelle will be my exercise challenges. Great Idea!

Re: I have been thinking about exercise challanges!

I started the BCtcCW Crew- which is a challenge where you simply commit to a certain amount of minutes a month doing whatever exercise you choose and then keep track of it in your signature - no checking in, no muss, no fuss. If 200 minutes is what you choose, then that's what you list and if you choose 1500, then that's what you list.

As said above, it's really what you make of it!

Re: I have been thinking about exercise challanges!

austlyn there is also a president's challenge where you can log your exercise, whatever it is, however much you do and you get points towards medals you can go here directly to enter http://www.presidentschallenge.org/ or you can find the link over in the exercise challenges to get the code which is (25686) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=4148 and you just use the same name there that you use here (so you're recognized).

There's no pressure to do a particular exercise, or how much per week, or anything, you are just tallying up points and working towards your own goal and your own award. Pretty cool.

But whatever you do, however you do it, you just have to move! Good luck with your choices.
