  • Looking Forward (an inspirational rant)

I'm ready to join the Century Club! I'm currently 284 and have at least 124 pounds to go before I'm in a healthy weight range.

And I don't know about you, but as someone with that much to lose, I'm looking forward...

...to the day I can sit on any chair without fearing I'll break it
...to panties with no lycra in them
    ...to no more "bat wings"
    ..
.to eating out without people eyeing me with pity if I order a salad, or with disgust if I don't
...to sitting comfortably in an airplane seat
...to buying clothes in sizes that don't include an X
...to never hearing "you've got a real pretty face" again
...to dancing without looking like a bag of jelly in an earthquake
...to walking without my thighs rubbing together
...to playing with my son without getting worn out
...to only having an "apron" when I'm in the kitchen
...to the first time my husband can put his arms around me -- all the way around me
    ...to size 24... then 22… then 20… then 18…
...to bras that don't have to double as a harness for my back fat
...to burning the zippered hoodies I've worn since high school to hide my figure
... to elbows that don't have jowls
...to shopping for a swimsuit without crying
...to riding a bicycle without attracting incredulous looks
...to seeing my bellybutton without having to lift a flap
...to tying my shoes without holding my breath
    ...to wearing thigh-high stockings
...to being half the woman I once was...

...and though I'm sure I'll stumble along the way,
    by the grace of God,
    I'm never looking back.

Welcome to the Century Club! Great post.

You hit the nail on the head with ALL of those things. I am so looking forward to those and more. I had to laugh at "to dancing without looking like a bag of jelly in an earthquake" haha...I've never heard it put quite like that. And I can't wait to lose my "bat wings" too, although I call them my "bye-bye buddies!" They wave when I wave. lol

Can't wait to see the changes in us over the next months/years. HAPPY LOSING!

I hope you don't mind if I print your post and tack it to my billboard at home. Being male, I can't commiserate with the lycra panties or the bra harness, but the rest is spot on. You have a wonderful way with words and I agree with you. Never look back. These pounds we will be losing will never visit us again.

What a great post!!!! Thank you!!!

When I started here four years ago, I couldn't even articulate or imagine what life would be like when I lost weight ... or if I even could lose weight. Now all I can do is tell you it is all worth it!

Tim, I notice you don't mention the thigh-high stockings in your list of exceptions... but I mean hey, it's cool, everybody's got their thing.

All good-natured ribbing aside, I'm really glad you liked it. I hoped it would inspire / amuse others here who are trying to find their way out of the same handbasket I'm in...

Nice post, you really don't need to worry about judgements here with before pictures, but take it at your own pace.

                Cute kid.

That's such a great post! Such wonderful things in store for you! I could have had exactly the same wish list when I started out just a short 5 months ago - now I'd tick off quite a few items (not all!) as done. Which is where you will soon be too- so hang on to that list!!!

I notice you don't mention the thigh-high stockings in your list of exceptions... but I mean hey, it's cool, everybody's got their thing

                    ROFL!!

I'm now picturing Tim singing beautifully in his thigh-highs, which is an, um, interesting thought on a dull Monday morning!!

LOL, while I admit that some of the costumes I've worn on stage have been out there, I've yet to actually wear a pair of thigh-highs. It could occur, especially with the Hollywood direction opera is taking these days, but for now, I'll stay comfortable in my long robes and billowing cloaks....with or without the powdered wigs.
