  • Question for anyone who has already lost 100+

I have a question that is kind of wierd

How has your skin recovered from the weight loss ?

I lost a bit before (70 lbs) and the skin was doing OK but I gained it all back pretty fast so not sure how good/bad it would have been.

I plan on losing over 100 and keeping it down, and my skin is wrecked with stretch marks

I know it will never be perfect but I worry is it going to tighten up all the way ? Does anyone know ?

Right now with my current loss I look like someone let 30% of the air out of a Macy's float

Re: Question for anyone who has already lost 100+

After losing 130 lbs I had enough skin left over that it would bunch up a bit and show through my clothes if I wore pants that actually fit my waist size. I have a 29" waist, but to avoid my extra skin showing through I needed to get 30-31" depending on the brand to avoid the problem.

After a year on maintenance, it has tightened up quite a bit...to the point where I can wear properly fitting clothes, but the problem hasn't completely vanished. The skin is a very resilient organ, but there's a limit to what it can rebound from and, of course, elasticity decreases exponentially with age. If I ever want a completely flat stomach, I'll have to look into surgery to remove the skin, but I'm not in any horrible hurry.

That being said, there are people on this board who have had wonderful success with their skin bouncing back and ending up with little to no saggy skin so there's always hope, but that depends on how much you need to lose etc...

Probably not the answer you were looking to hear, but that was my experience..

    All the best,

    ~Far la bell figura!

No this was a great answer.

I'd bet in another year your skin will continue to get better. You said it did improve with time so I'm betting that it just takes time.

      Thanks so much !

I can't speak from personal experience, but my mother lost 140ish pounds on her low carb porgram, and her skin was recovered nicely and she's in her 50's. Her doctor's said that genetics and water intake help a good deal, as well as exxercising. She has all three so I would think they may have been contributing factors.

When I worked for a doctor who did lipo suction, he had his patients wear elastic girdle type under garments religiously for 6 weeks after the procedure to help shrink back the skin after the fat removal... maybe it would help???? I've been wearing some long ones that come all the way to the ankes, mostly because I am so cold at night they help to keep me warm! ha ha! but I also am kind of hoping it helps my sagging skin get a little tighter too. We'll see. I'm experimenting too. When we did arms, we wrapped the arms in ace wraps... just telling you a little inside info... for what it's worth... it might work, but it might not???? Good luck to you.

Thanks for the tip liz...I'll deff be trying the girdle thing! lol, and the ace wraps too...cause thats a bad area on me. Now that I think about it...I remember my mom saying that she wore a girdle after having both of her kids...and her stomach is flat as can be...so maybe theres something to that...cant hurt thats for sure!

I've lost 130 pounds. Drinking lots of water and exercising really helps. I have a bit of sag, but nothing thats as bad as the fat that used to be there. My advice is to lose the weight, don't worry about the saggy skin for now. Each of us are different so you never know - it might tighten up on its own.

I don't think Dr. A approved of kidnapping.

lol, j/k One of the things I liked about her is that she looks so healthy (most of the time, she got too skinny once) I always liked the way her body looked.

I want one like Scarlet Johansen!

I was happy to see this thread today. To see some of the replies about people (and their loved ones) who has lost a lot of weight. I too worry about sagging skin so I have been swimming a lot. I have done the dry brushing too but not religiously because I shower after I swim and I don't think to do my brushing before I go swim. I need to figure something out.

Okay ... I'll bite! I've lost oodles of weigh through Atkins and exercise. And yes ... I have excess skin. I've noticed a tightening of some of it so it is less bothersome with the weight work I do and the exercise. I will likely require some sort of procedure, eventually, but for now, I'm fine with it. All I can say is thank God for Spanx and Lipo in a Box! Where form fitting is key, those are miracles.

Some folks around here swear by dry brushing, and also flax seed oil is supposed to help with this.

I believe that this really is an individual thing, based largely on age and genetics. However, with time, I believe we'll all see significant improvements.
