  • Could Use Your Help And Support

    Hello all,
My name is Danielle and I am a 38 year old mom to 4 kids. (11, 6,5, and 6 months) My oldest one is autistic and non verbal and my 5 year old has some speech delays but is not autistic. My H had a midlife crisis a couple of years ago and we divorced. Then we got back together, I got pregnant and he pulled away again after the baby was born. He still lives here and right now we are like best friends. I have alot of emotional and stress triggers to my eating habits.

I have done Atkins, before about 5 years ago and lost 75 pounds doing it. Then stopped and gained all of the weight I lost back. Since then I have tried a couple of times to restart but have failed miserably. It seemed so much easier to stick to it the first time around.
I am so out of shape I can hardly doing any exercise and then feel like why bother 10 minutes isn't going to make a big difference. I know thats not the right attitude to have but I still think it.
I really want to lose at least 100 pounds and could really really use some support and some buddies!I am tired of not being able to go on a bike ride with the kids because I get winded easily.
Any tips or suggestions for sticking with it would be most appreciated.
    Atkins Induction Restart 2/24/2010

Hey Danielle, Welcome to the Century Club. I saw you've already found our roll call. You'll want to check in there every day. Everyone is so supportive.

I too lost 70 pounds on Atkins my first time around but gained it all back. *sigh* I attempted to get back on track many times but just couldn't stick with it. I finally got serious about 5 months ago. I think the biggest factor of being successful on this WOE is to make a commitment (a real commitment) to yourself. I think you finally just come to a point where enough is enough and your whole mindset changes. Once you make up your mind and just do it you feel so much better and finally in control of your body again.

I'm wishing you all the luck in the world. You can SO do this and become a healthier person for you and your family. What a busy mom you must be with 4 kids under the age of 12 and one with special needs. Hang in there and if your day gets too stressful take a time out and come look around the board. You'll find lots of support and encouragment along the way.

I'm new here, too. I lost 80 lbs 3 years ago, then gained it all back. I needed some on-line support because none of my friends or co workers think atkins is healthy. My husband does support me, though. He's seen me lost 10 lbs since starting atkins 9 days ago ! So now he believes. But it would be a lot easier to do the diet with someone who is going through it, too!

Welcome Danielle! There's a lot of support here, we're all in this together, and it helps.

Part of this change has to come from within you, you are worth the effort, you will be happier and healthier when you're done. I'd recommend reading some of the blogs, they're very inspiring.

I'd like to give you a few tips for success:
          1) Get trigger/cheat food out of your house as best you can.
          2) Pre-plan your ENTIRE MENU, even snacks, and track it religiously on fitday(www.fitday.com) or on paper
          3) Take measurements and progress pictures. Don't weigh yourself every day.
          4) Don't stress about small slips. You are trying to make a lifestyle change, not just DIET. Your lifestyle got you where you are today, change that for you!

Welcome to the CC Daneille, you have found the right place.

            What I know:
            1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

Hi Danielle and Kim. Plenty of us "yet another time around" folks here I lost 100 pounds the first time, 56 (Ithink) the 2nd and then had a heck of a time going back on. It took me almost a year before I actually made it fully through induction. You just gotta reallllly want it! Decide what's more important, and when the answer is truly to lose the weight, you'll do it!!
Good luck ladies! We're all here for you!

                Hey Danielle...glad you are here.

You know the thing is food will not solve any of our problems and that's what we all have to work through. Everyone on this board may not be going through what you are...and you do have an extremely difficult path...but we all are walking together. People here understand where others may not. I would encourage you to post daily and let us know how you are doing. There is incredible support here.

Thanks for sharing a portion of your life with us and be encouraged...you can get control of this area in your life.

When I started trying exercising, I tried to do too much and got burnt out. I tried to do what others were doing and not focusing on what I could do and stick with. Now, when I walk on the treadmill, I walk at 15 minute intervals at 2 mph. If you just do that twice a day, that is a whole mile! I am also lucky enough to find a gym near me that has an indoor pool and I swim. I can't work out for long periods of time and I am even too afraid to take an hour long class at the gym. On the first of March, I plan on adding in small workouts from this website. All these mini workouts are less than 15 minutes long. http://exercisetv.tv/studio/miniworkouts/ I did read somewhere that even if you could only exercise say 15 minute intervals four times a day that it was still a great benefit. I know it was for me because otherwise I would avoid my workout because it was just too long and too hard for me and I ended up doing NOTHING! Something is always better than nothing. Good luck!

Welcome to the Century club !!

This is my 2nd real dedication to Atkins I lost 70 lbs before and then completely stopped and over 4 years gained 110 lbs. Along the way I had several cheap attempts to restart but they were not the real deal.

Finding this board has made me stay on track, just going through the experiences with others and also celebrating each others victories makes it much easier to stay on track. Even the simple act of making a signature with goals gives you so much more focus than trying to do it w/out support and organization.

I was in the same physical shape as you I would get out of breath just walking so I know how you feel. I actually just got onto the eating plan and lost weight from that first, eventually from the change in eating you find you will start having energy and you can't help but wanting to excercise.

Last night was my first walk for excercise. I accomplished one mile and felt great I was actually scared that lack of carbs in my system would make me feel weak and sick but once I got going I was bursting with energy it was awesome!

It's good to have you here see you around on the boards !

Hi, I'm new to the site myself, but I have a few things I might could help with or at least try. I have a 9 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and a wonderful wife of 4 years. I had a rough growing up with my father leaving and not having a figure in my life to get that guidance that I needed. So I found out that I have bi polar and sometimes makes life hard but I find strength in Jesus and My loving family. You really learn that life is all that you want it to be. It always seemed that when I got to close to falling over the edge I had God to always pull me back on the right course. This website seems to be great. I lost a 100 pounds about 4 years ago and when I got married I gained it all back plus some. I look at my kids and wife and draw so much strength from them to make this atkins work. Just hang in there and things will get better. God says that he will never put more than we can handle on us. Let God carry you on your way to a happy and joyful life.
