  • Very Discouraged, I Blew It!

    Hello Fellow

Well now that Easter is done and over, I feel like I gained all 7lbs back that I lost!!! I was sooooooo bad, I ate Peanut Butter Eggs and Chocolate Chip cookies, in addition to my low carb meals. The scale says I have not gained but I feel like the biggest LOSER! I am so scared I am not going to make it on this diet plan. I have been convincing myself that I can eat low carb and continue to have that lifestyle, but I am not sure if I can constantly eat these foods, such as meat ALL THE TIME, and high fat foods. I mentioned before that it has been a huge struggle for me in the past, because I am not used to eating much at all, thus my metabolism is pretty much shot and this is why I cannot lose. But I feel so discouraged. It is so hard and I give up on myself so easily even though I KNOW I have to lose the weight. UGGGHHHHHHHH....Sorry to complain so much, I just feel lonely and wish I could stick with a plan!

I was wondering, for those of you who have been successful, how long do you have to stay on the induction plan? Do you only go the 14 days or do you have to stay on it as long as you need to keep losing pounds?

    Thank you for listening!
    Take Care,
    Ali

      Hi MommyToo3

I understand what you are going thru, I just finish induction and the past days were really hard, but remembering what your goal is helps a lot in those moments, some people say its not good to tell the people around you that you have a new way of eating, but I think its good, not because they will do something to help, they might, but its more to remember yourself that you are in a path that is going to take some time, but the reward will be beautiful for you. I also wasnt used to eating so much meat but now I am getting more used to the flavors and specially after looking at the results

So remember your goal, breath deep when you get stressed and feel that you are going to eat something you shouldnt, and if you eat it anyway, forgive yourself for it, get back on track and remember that you are starting and that each day you are getting stronger to continue till your goal.

      Have a nice day,

      Rosa

Hi Ali, you know the great thing about Atkins is we can design it to fit our likes and dislikes and if you want to move up after induction then, do so. But if your happy with your current food choices, stay
Whats the trade off? Well when we go up the ladder we are testing the waters, trying to find how many carbs we can eat and still lose. So the first week you might want to eat 25 carbs and add extra veggies. If your still losing, you go up to 30 carbs and add fresh cheeses, etc. Its like a game and we win.

Hey Ali, You've had a minor bump in the road. It happens to alot of us at some point or another. It's what you do after that bump that matters. You just have to refocus your mind and get right back on track. I know how discouraging it can be when you have been doing so good and then you all the sudden let yourself slip into temptation. It's a very disappointing and even disgusting feeling at times. But you just have to remember that this is a life-long process, a learning process. Don't feel like you have to quit or give up over one minor mistake. That's what I ALWAYS did in the past and I look back on all the years I wasted not doing anything about my weight. You CAN do this! Don't give up on yourself so easily... you are worth the effort!!!

Now, as far as your questions/concerns about Atkins... I have stayed on extended induction for awhile but many people on the board recommend that you start moving up the rungs as soon as possible. It gives you more variety in what you can eat. Also, experiment with new recipes so you don't get tired of the same old things. Have you been to Linda's website?http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html She has some awesome recipes and many are induction friendly (those are marked with an asterick). My favorite recipe on there is "Just Like Stuffed Mashed Potatoes." It is delicious and makes a great side item for lunch or dinner. Just take things one day at a time, one meal at a time, and before you know it a week will pass, a month will pass, and you will be looking and feeling great!! Hang in there!

Re: Very Discouraged, I Blew It!

              Ali;

There's been some good advice here in these replies, I hope you take them to heart. I'm going to offer one more piece.

You have to change your relationship with food. You need to find out why you eat, what do you use food for? Why do you stay fat? A lot of fat people use their weight as a shield and built in excuse for life and food is the everpresent validation for any feeling, good or bad. Finding out those answers will let you CHANGE what happens the next time you're somewhere with cake.

Right now for me it's 3:48am, I've been at work since 9pm for an overnight and it's been nothing but horrid in terms of stress and conflict tonight and outside my office is a cart with donuts, chips, dip, cookies, cokes and several other things and I haven't looked at any of them once. They don't appeal to me any more, and the only reason I feel that's so is because I'm personally not afraid of succeeding and I made the concious decision to STOP using food as a punishment and reward.

What worked for me may not work for you, but most of us here have patterns in our eating, and patterns in our weight that seem to manifest the same way.

              You're worth this change.

Re: Very Discouraged, I Blew It!

You didn't blow it. That would be if you just up and quit now. You just hit a little bump in the road. You're doing fabulously! Use how lousy you feel about your cheats, and the gift of not gaining because of it, to dust yourself off and keep going!

                You really can do it!

I have a lot to lose, so the first time I did Atkins, I stayed on induction for about five months. I kept myself to a rather unvaried menu (eggs/bacon, hamburger/mayo, salmon/mayo, pork rinds/sour cream), so I got bored and fell off (I blew it!!!)

This time, I still plan to do extended induction, but will make every effort to vary my meals, and probably not stay on as long as I did last time.

                Good luck!
