    Re: Slow Looser

I consider myself a slow-loser. I've never dropped large amounts in one weigh and I've had to work extra hard for every pound I've lost. But, developing a die-hard attitude and not focusing on pounds, but rather on exercising and feeling your best has helped me not get frustrated. The tape measure has been my best friend. Seeing the inches lost has kept me motivated.

Hi Salima, after starting with a 20 lb loss in induction Im now losing maybe 2 or 3 lb a week, and there was a week that I didnt lose any pound, but I think its because of the exercise Im doing now, when we exercise we start to get muscle producing and that weights also, but I have seen my measurements going down. Have you been measuring yourself? when I see that neither weight or measures go down, I then turn to see what am I eating that might be stoping my weight loss, and another thing, that really works for me, is to make positive affirmations that I want to lose weight, that I dont need to be fat anymore. I also read that to make this kind of mental exercises helps your body and mind to understand that its ok now to lose the weight that for some reason you started to keep as a reserve in your body. Just remember yourself why you want to lose the weight and repeat constantly why, but remember also it has to be for you, cause if you are doing it for someone else, your brain might have trouble understanding the message.

        Re: Slow Looser

Hello Dream and Pink. Thank you for your feedback. It helps me to see, that there are others, who are also loosing slowly. I have to admit that I do get envious, when I read post of people who lost 20 lbs during induction alone. I'm happy for them, but it frustrates me, that the scale isn't moving as fast as I want or hoped. However, I do tell myself that loosing slowly is better for me - for my skin. I know that also my Pre-Diabetes status makes it harder for me to loose.

Currently, my friends are not really supportive in regard to this WOL. They question, respectively doubt that cutting out carbs and eating so much fat is healthy for me. All I know is that I feel good, better than before - not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. I've got so much energy too. I'm happy, that at least my doctor is pro Atkins - I'm having another check up on May 5th - I hope for amazing blood results.

I will take your advice and enforce the mental exercises, using affirmations.

        Thank you very much!

          Re: Slow Looser

You friends should either educate themselves or quit bugging you about it

It took years and years to gain the weight you have on now, it did for almost all of us. You have a few strikes against you when it comes to losing, and the pre-diabetes is a huge one.

Some people lose weight slowly, some lose fat and put muscle on easily so while their body changes, the scale doesn't show much.

Don't compare your results with others, unless it's your twin, because that's the only person who could have a journey close to yours.

Make sure you're taking regular measurements and pictures for progress. I hit a 3 week stall, but my measurements were better and pants I hadn't worn in years suddenly fit again. Without those pants or my measurements, I'd have been bummed about stalling, no doubt.

Slow and steady wins the race, you're going to be fine

              Re: Slow Looser

Patience is not a virtue of mine, but so far I've been successfully working on it. I took my measurements and checked them on Sunday again and noticed I did loose some inches. I also did notice that my figure is changing and I do feel more comfortable in tighter clothes. Anyhow -I guess I am a slave to the scale. I just look forward to the time when my weight is two digits ... and not 3 anymore.

Digital you are right - I shouldn't compare. But I'm only human and since I take lots of motivation from this forum, from posts and pictures, I just face the fact that others loose easier.

Sure enough would I take medication against the pre-diabetes I would loose faster. But I don't want to take them and besides, my doctor seems to think I don't need them. Following this WOE has had a great effect on my blood results.

And regarding my friends. Well Atkins isn't well known here - and if, only the bad (false) rumors are known. I tried to educate them, but they just can't see how living a low-carb life can be a happy life.

Well - it's a choice - and I choose to get healthy and therefore give up carbs ... at least for a while in a very restrictive way until I hopefully one day reach Rung 9.
