  • newbie who would like to join the club

Hello everyone. My story so far....I lost 24kgs whatever that is in pounds lol I'm from Oz, I wasn't doing Atkins just eating very little and lots salads. Anyway I stalled and decided to give Atkins a try. I have read the book and have just finished my 1st. week of induction. A few headaches and a bit tired but otherwise no probs. I have lost 4kgs in my first week which is fantastic.

I am a type 2 diabetic who takes insulin as well as tablets and the best part is since staring Atkins I have completely stopped my injections. Yes in just 1 week of eating low carb I have been able to stop having to inject myself twice a day. My blood sugars are perfect and so stable so just goes to show what all the carbs do to your body.

I am so happy and excited for the future and can't wait to cut back the tablets as well [under my doctors supervision of course.] My doctor is amazed and told me to keep doing whatever it is I'm doing.

Anyway sorry for the long winded post but I am so inspired by the results so far.
    Hugs to all
    Wendy

Wow that is great about 58lbs which is a whole lot of weight congratulations. A kilo is around 2.2 lbs so you have lost another 8lbs you are really doing well.

I am so happy for you regarding your diabetes how great is that to not to have to inject each day. Way to go Khesan. My husband is also a diabetic type 2 and he has been able to cut back on his metformin which actually helps to balance your blood sugar.

Don't aplogise for being long winded it is great to hear your news and certainly makes me very happy indeed. Medical Professionals don't like Atkins and it is good to hear that they appreciate the good it does.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome and encouragement. Yes it is amazing to see the pounds or kgs lol melt away. I love looking at all your amazing photos and see how well u have all done it gives me something to aspire to. I am off to see my Dr. soon and I know his jaw is gunna drop when he sees how mush weight I have lost. I am very luck to have a great Dr. who supports me and encourages me every step of the way and to have one that isn't Atkins phobic as well. He says that anything that gets the weight off is going to improve my health and that's what his main job is to improve my health and make me the healthiest he can so great attitude.
I have a questions before I go. I can't walk need a double knee replacement so am in constant pain and back is not much better so what type of exercise can I do. I can't swim either cause I to embaressed of my body. So far I just been doing resistance work and weights till I can get more mobile.
Anyway thanks again and have a fantastic day.

                Hi Wendy

Congratulations on the great start you have already made along the Atkins Way

I am so pleased to hear your doctor is supportive of your success too.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

What a great doctor you have. My husband has just come back from seeing his dietician and she was very much anti-Atkins. He spent over half an hour justifying losing weight and feeling great. Finally he asked her what she thought was wrong with the Atkins way she said she didn't know as very little research had been done.

I need two new knees also, I have found that just by losing 17lbs I can actually walk free of most of the pain. Just do what you can, even just a little excersise helps and I have a friend who did Atkins without doing any exsercise and still she managed to lose a lot of weight.

                    Hi Khesan!

What a great story to remind us that it's not just all about the weight. It's amazing what overall health benefits with WOL has to offer. I myself experience relief from my hypoglycemia and am hoping my cholesterol will improve the next time I get it checked. It wasn't really high...yet...just at the high end of normal.

                    Your story is inspirational!

HI Wendy, welcome , and wow, you have done great to get off your insulin and to have lost so much , go you !!
As for excercise, I have known people who would sit in thier chair and just move as much as they could, what ever did not hurt, arms, waist, any leg lifts you can do, just move as much as you can . Anything helps and until you get get up on those legs, that would probably be the best. If you are up to it, you could even use small hand weights for your arm lifts. I understand about not wanting to wear a bathing suit in public, feel that way myself. I would just do as much as you can until you can do more. Even if it feels small, as you work the parts of your body that you can, your strength will improve over time as you keep at it and you will be able to do more and more.
                      I hope that helps !!
                      Glad you joined us !!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement. I realized yesterday that when I walk now I am not limping cause of my knees and I am standing up straight and walking with purpose. Can't wait to see what more weight loss is going to do for my poor body lol. Fingers crossed my back pain will improve as the kgs. disappear.

Welcome to ADBB and Century Club! Congratulations on your success up to this point. There's so much more to come.

It's wonderful that your doc is supportive. There are a lot of naysayers out there. Now that I've lost a considerable amount of weight (33 pounds so far) when people ask what I've been doing I let them know ~ Atkins, exercise, and water. I also let them know that Atkins is more than just eating meat !

                          Keep up the good work.
