  • What about the skin?

    Hello to all,
As some of you know I am fairly new, but have lost 34 lbs. since the 17th of June. ( 32 dropped in the first 2 1/2 weeks) Now, I am not sure how many of you are having the same thing happening or not, but my skin is already starting to hang differently. I still have 184lbs. to go and I am envisioning what it will be like when I reach goal! How much does a body lift cost? I had thought about the surgery and that was included in the whole package deal, but some how the surgery just seems like the quick way out and a good way to damage your body worse. Ok guys and gals looking for input here so bring it on...
    Love, Light and Blessings

    Re: What about the skin?

Same here Sue I will need an wheelbarrow to cart mine around lol. I was wondering what people who have lost over 100kgs. did to cope with all lose skin I imagine it would be uncomfortable and hard to deal with . I will be interested to hear what others are doing also.

I have not lost nearly as much as you yet, but from what I have read, if you are exercising regularly, you will avoid all or most of that problem.

A while back someone posted this on one of the other forums on this board. Can't vouch for the author's validity, but I am counting on it being true or I am in a boatload of trouble a few months down the road!

Firstly. I'm envious of that 32 pounds so quickly! Good job!!
Secondly, skin elasticity presumably fades with age, and with yo-yoing. If the self proclaimed experts are right, your history will have a lot to do with how well your skin fits your new body. From all accounts, the skin will take longer than the fat.

290 lbs. on 11/02/07 Goal: 145 lbs. or size 14 whichever comes first!

Erm... There are a lot of variables here, like, the longer you're overweight, the longer it takes the skin to go back... If you exercise (cardio *AND* strength training), and drink lots of water, it can help. There's also Dry Brushing (I don't know the link) which helps for circulation to skin to try and get it motivated. I also take an Omega 3 to help out.

            The Myth of Loose Skin

Sorry, losetocruise- but that man is a total crackpot. He and his ridiculous assertions have been discussed at length on many of the lowcarb forums. He's out to make a buck. Nothing more. Nothing less. He's the Kimmer of loose skin. *snarl*

Pardon my being blunt here, but the guy is an asshat. Fat loss does not give your skin it's elasticity back. Does it improve appearance? Yes, but I'm here to tell you after giving birth to 3 children and losing almost 100 lbs that the loose skin on my tummy is exactly that - loose skin, and dropping my body fat down ridiculously low isn't going to cure that- nor do I believe it to be healthy.

He carries on and on about body fat and loose skin and throws numbers all over the place, but a woman with 10% body fat is NOT healthy. A woman with 17-22% body fat is considered "athletic". A woman under 15% body fat risks losing her menstrual cycle, hair loss, and all sorts of really ...unpleasant...things.

I just wanted to chime in before another soul spent any money with that person! Diet/Exercise/Supplementation is the way to go. Spend that money on a steak
