Can't even claim an alien abduction -- I've been hiding out and avoiding exericse like the plague! Again, it was 2B to the rescue -- she has dragged me out of hiding.

My goal is 2X a week -- 30 minutes of something (usually swimming).

Biggest fear -- I am having a problem with pain and activity, so I am in this dumb cycle of not wanting to exericse because then my hip and back hurt, but really I need to exercise to strengthen the muscles so they won't hurt! Arghhh!

Made my goal this week - 3x workout.

Today I did an hour aerobics class - it was really tough but I made it through.

I keep telling myself it will get easier.

Next week - I want to workout at least 3x and try to add a 4th - maybe a walk or hike.

After a long absence, I'm back (thanks 2big for rescuing me). My commitment for this week is 4 out of 7 days. It's my spring break, so I really think I can achieve this (and hopefully more).

          WEEK 10

We are using the the program factors factors from The Motivation to Move by Vicki R. Pierson & Renee Cloe

          ACE Certified Personal Trainers
While most people acknowledge how important exercise and physical activity are to the human body, few are regularly active enough to receive significant health benefits. Estimates suggest that 40% of the American population is considered completely sedentary, while less than 20% are active at an intensity and frequency recommended for cardiovascular benefit. Worse yet, the dropout rates for those who do begin an exercise program reach 50% or more by the end of the first six months.

There are three types of factors that affect our motivation to stay with an exercise program. Personal factors have to do with you and your perceptions toward exercise. Program factors focus on the exercise program, it's convenience and the enjoyment you derive from it. Environmental factors deal with your external world that you can, and at times, can not control.

          take setbacks in stride
… Learn from your mistakes and keeping looking toward the future.

          Goals
Make goals for what you will accomplish this week. Be realistic, make them attainable. Challenge yourself, but don’t set yourself up for failure by promising more than you know you can do. When I started out I was doing 2MPH for 20 minutes and thought I was Rocky on top of those steps. Now I'm in much better shape and can do much more much faster so if I posted I was doing that now I hope y'all would kick my butt for being an exercise slug.

          Extra Credit

Is the program of reasonable enough intensity so that you find it challenging but not punishing or aversive?

Is the program varied enough to maintain interest and diminish boredom?

I am joining the excercise challenge again, I stopped for about three weeks because of hurt wrists, and even when the doctor gave me the ok to workout I must admit it was hard for me to start back up again. But no more:

            Goals:
My goal for the next week is to resume my workout. I will workout at least 3 times this next week. I will do the eliptic trainer for 30 minutes and weight training for 30 minutes. My goal is to burn 800 calories at the gym/visit.

Another goal is to remember that I must take care of my body, not just work myself to death to the point that I can't workout for 3 weeks after. What's the point of losing 4.5 pounds in one week and then not losing any weight for 3 weeks.

            Extra Credit:
I enjoy my workouts, I'm not bored with them. I think my workouts are challenging but that I need to remember to use less weight in order to not strain my wrists and my back.

Hope everyone has a lovely week. -Yo

I met my goals of last week of 4 cardio (did 5) and 3-4 lifting (did 4).

This week's goal is the same 4 and 4, with the intention of exceeding my goals.

Is the program of reasonable enough intensity so that you find it challenging but not punishing or aversive?

Is the program varied enough to maintain interest and diminish boredom?
I must be most utterly boring or routine person. My exercise is like my lunch about the same every day, and that is the way I like it. If I want to crack the whip or up it notch, up goes the resistance (either faster or harder). Very little variety in the cardio, but the job gets done. Plateauing hasn't been a problem yet as I can switch to stair climber to elliptical or just up the intensity. I used to be a level 1 now I am in the middle range.

If I do reenlist, I am going to have to switch to a routine more focused on running than I have been, but that is a bridge yet to be crossed.

I reached my goal for last week which was to walk 2.5 miles, 5 times.
Also, I had a long list of strenuous work that we successfully completed.
In addition, I managed to do my tapes 2 times!!

Is the program of reasonable enough intensity so that you find it challenging but not punishing or aversive?
More punishing than I would like, but has to be done!

Is the program varied enough to maintain interest and diminish boredom?
It certainly isn't boring. I have chosen to use our repairs to the farm as my weekly exercise. I feel quite certain that my muscles are getting the appropriate amount of exercise, considering the way they feel each day.

                  I made it! :yes

Is the program of reasonable enough intensity so that you find it challenging but not punishing or aversive? Yes, I kept it simple because I am out of shape

Is the program varied enough to maintain interest and diminish boredom? No, I need something new. I think that is part of the reason I fail.

Sorry for not posting my goals...thought I was supposed to wait until Monday to begin! Anyhow...here they are!

Walk 3.5 or ride my bike 5.0 miles. I also adding wieght training back into my life this week. (Have been a former lifter, but abandoned for some reason, not sure why!) I will lift 3x this week.

So far I am doing awesome and feel great.

Is the program of reasonable enough intensity so that you find it challenging but not punishing or aversive?

Yes! I am able to work up a sweat but yet carry on a converstion. I hear this is an easy "rule of thumb" regarding intensity.

Is the program varied enough to maintain interest and diminish boredom?

I feel like it is at this point. That is why I am varying the walking with the bike. I also utilize calling a friend to walk with me sometimes and at other times, I walk with my kids. Sometimes I just enjoy walking by myself and enjoying some good music on my head phones. The latter is new for me, because I never usually go and do something just by myself, for myself!

                            Happy exercising to all! :wave
