  • Help me, I'm not in Ketosis

    Hi Everyone,

I have been doing, an extended induction most days. The only thing that I have added to my diet is a few extra carbs, as I am trying to find out where my CCL is. I really started OWL 2 weeks ago. But I am hangin in at the same weight and I really haven't changed my eating. So today the test strips show up, finally. I checked my urine, it says negative. So how do I go about getting in ketosis. Should I restart induction?

Or am I just too dumb to use the urine stix?

My first thought is, drop your carbs again, up your fat, and try again tomorrow. I would be willing to bet that the most common reason people go out of ketosis if they have not really cheated, is they also let their fat consumption go down. The proportion of the fat to carbs is fairly important.

You find your CCLL by going up the carb ladder in OWL, not extended induction.

That said, I lost 102 pounds in 10 months and almost always showed negative or at most, trace, on those evil stix. I threw them away after I had lost 75 pounds because of registering negative on a week I lost 5 pounds. There are other ways to tell if you are in ketosis such as killer ketosis breath, smelly urine, loss of appetite and so on.

Just do the plan by the book and you will be in ketosis and lose the weight.

I agree that you need to follow OWL to find out your CCL. And you have to be patient with the process of adding only the foods a step at a time. Doing extended induction "most days" poses a question, too. Sends a red flag that you may not be following Atkins as it is written in DANDR, 2002.
