I'm Mags. I am 36 and happily married to DH with a flock of little ones. I've been lurking but would love to be more active on the board.
I am back on Atkins after a few years of being off - I was down to 275 and went off the WOE, and just went back to old, horrible habits. I felt gross and sluggish and additionally put back on nearly 75 lbs (I had a WHOA! moment when I saw the scale... it was horrific to realize how morbidly obese I was - but mostly how I gross felt).
We are very active, physical people so our weight has always not been a big hinderance, but he can't fit in the theme park rides anymore and I am too embarrassed to ever try. Plus I want to be in better shape for our kids. I ordered three swimsuits for our vacation in MY SIZE but they were far too tight. I ripped one putting it on. OBVIOUSLY the seller marked them wrong... right? That was my wake-up call.
Anyway, fast forward to now, I am back on the "wagon" where hubby and I have realized we will stay forever. That's okay for us. We find pleasure these days in a scoop of SF ice cream with strawberries where we used to eat a big slice of carrot cake or apple pie and the ice cream every night. We even are planning to pare down on holidays. That would follow a very "square meal" (one meat, one starch, two vegs.
A friend is having great success with this, so we were encouraged to restart. Now we can really see the difference, so it's pretty easy to stick with it. We had a plateau and stuck in there, too. I am down as of this morning 36.4 lbs. I feel much better, look better, and am in jeans I haven't seen in 2 years. I hope to throw them out by Christmas.
So, I look forward to getting to know you all better. I love the idea of having people in the same boat who have a lot to lose, and especially some BTDT's
Thanks!
