    Hi Mandy!

Welcome, it's great to meet you! Congratulations on making the decision to get healthy!

I have been on Atkins since July of this year and have had great success with it and feel amazing!

I suggest the first thing you do is read the book, go shopping and surround yourself with all the food that you are allowed to eat (clean out the refrigerator and cupboards of foods that you ought not to eat), make sure you do a clean Induction (no cheating...make sure everything you put in your mouth is what you are allowed), drink lots and lots of water....and add some form of exercise into your weekly routine....even if it's a 5 or 10 minute walk to start out with. Eating right, drinking water and exercise go hand in hand.

Come here a lot, read as much as you possibly can and post as often as you like. This forum is truly amazing, everyone here is so incredibly caring, supportive and encouraging....we're all in this together!

Looking forward to reading more updates on how its going for you!

          Good morning Mandy!

I hope you're having an enjoyable low carb morning!

I don't have many suggestions regarding workout DVDs because I haven't really purchased many but I have read a number of posts on here where people use DVDs and I know others can give you some fabulous suggestions.

With regards to work out DVDs that I do have....I've just purchased two work out DVDs a few days ago for the first time. The first is called "Sexy Arms" by Dave Sinclair and the other one is "30 Day Shred" by Jillian Michaels. I haven't done the Jillian Michael's one yet but I have done the "Sexy Arms" DVD and I like it. I have a lot a weight to deal with on my arms and I'm hopeful adding this to my resistance training that I've already been doing will help.

For me, all my exercise has consisted of the following:

I have been exercising on my glider (Gazelle), I purchased some weights from Walmart (great prices on little hand weights), I have a thigh machine (another nasty place I carry a lot of weight - just recently purchased this and it works well!), I have a stability ball I do crunches on, I have some resistance bands I use once in a while (haven't really gotten the hang of them yet ), I also purchased a disk that you stand on and twist side to side....it works great for me and I've noticed a difference) and as of last night I purchased a 14 lb medicine ball and started using it last night. I also do some floor exercises and wall pushups (probably missing something but that is pretty much what I do). My best purchase to date is the glider, it's amazing and I love using it. I get a great cardio workout on it and it has made an incredible difference in my health.

For me, when I first started out exercising...I knew I had to incorporate some form of cardio. I started out walking each night with my hubby and challenged myself to increase the distance through time. I then decided to unpack my glider and got on that each night...sometimes I would miss a night and just opt for going for a walk outside instead. I then realized that I had to incorporate some form of hand weight exercises for resistance training. I went on youtube and watched a lot of videos using hand weights and incorporated the ones that I thought would be most helpful to me. Youtube has been a great resource for me with regards to incorporating other exercises including stability ball exercises, floor exercises etc.

So, that sort of is the long and short of what I'm doing.

The most important thing I would suggest to anyone when they first start out is just get your body moving....whatever it takes....a 10-20 minute walk each day...maybe for some it can only be a 5 minute walk to their street stop sign and that's ok.....and keep doing this and adding more distance in time as one can. Don't get overwhelmed with exercise....because when that happens, one can lose motivation. Enjoy!

All the best to you, I know you'll do great!
          Sarina

PS. (I'm writing this a bit quick this morning as I'm getting ready for work also...so I apologize if it's a bit choppy...if you have any quetions please don't hesitate to ask!)
