  • Hello everyone - 250 pounds to lose!

Okay, I am starting Atkins tomorrow. This is an overwhelming thought - to lose 250 pounds. But I have decided to do it 1 pound and 1 day at a time. I am going to pickup the Atkins book (again) tonight and will shop some tonight / tomorrow. Any words of wisdom, links you could recommend, etc. would be most encouraging and helpful. And also, please pray for me!

I just posted a threat on the Introduction link - you can read more about me there...

    Thank you,

    Barb H., Virginia

Re: Hello everyone - 250 pounds to lose!

      Hi Barb,

Welcome, it's great to meet you!!!!

I can appreciate your feeling of being overwhelmed with regards to having to lose 250 lbs....I too needed to lose 250 lbs as well....I haven't reached that goal yet...but I have to date lost 127lbs.....so I'm 123 lbs away and still determined to make it happen.

What has helped me is doing EXACTLY what I'm suppose to do (eat what I'm allowed, drink lots of water & exercise) and most importantly take it day by day....sometimes for me it's minute to minute. Eating this way has been the best thing my body has ever experienced. My system has responded to it better then I could have ever hoped. It has been hard work, I won't deny it (for me the hard work has been staying motivated to exercise 6 days a week...I run on my glider 1:05 hr each night 6 days a week and it is a bit daunting to stay motivated to get on that thing every night LOL!!!!! I also do other exercises which I really enjoy but my glider gets me grumbling - the eating has not been hard for me at all, I enjoy what I eat and have no desire to stray - thankfully!!!) but well worth the pay off. Another thing that has helped me GREATLY is prepping our kitchen with the food that I am suppose to eat...having boiled eggs at hand to snack on, veggies (the qty. I'm allowed of course), chicken already prepared and in the refrigerator, little beef or turkey hamburger patties...etc...so when these are already cooked and ready for me to eat, I have no desire to reach or THINK of reaching for something I ought not to have.

I have learned a great deal through this journey and feel incredibly blessed with this new healthier life I have each day now. I also feel incredibly blessed for having met so many wonderful and caring friends from this forum....the people on this forum are truly amazing individuals who care and show a great deal of support and encouragement to everyone here. I will always be deeply grateful to them for coming along with me on this journey....like I always say "we're in this together and we'll get to our goals together and maintain".

I know you can do this and we're all here to support you through your personal journey. Congratulations to you for making the choice to get healthy....you're going to do great! Come here and read lots, post as often as you like and keep us all updated! If you feel up to it....join us each morning at the "Century Club 100+" roll call section ...many of us check in in the morning each day and say hello, share exciting news, share things that are bothering us, share news etc....it's a great way to start the day.

      All the best to you!

Welcome to ADBB and the century club. You can do great, read the book, visit the board often, exercise and water. You are on your way to melting away the unwanted pounds.

One day at a time and remember we are all here for each other.

        What I know:
        1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

Hi Barb I'm glad you joined us!! My only advice....try not to make this a "diet" in the modern sense of the word, but a way of eating for life. It gets harder the second, third, etc time around! Be sure to check in every day in our roll call thread
