My opinion is that you should learn why and how each works. If you learn just the basic science to it all... the Atkins way of life really makes total since.
What is Atkins? Its not just eating low carb, Its eating Natural foods! Something we were meant to do in the first place! Not eat ice cream with this amount of points, or try this processed fat free stuff full of fillers and chemicals that I can hardly pronounce... Its about being HEALTHY, not just losing weight...I can smoke crack and lose weight...but my body would do better with natural foods in it...not chemicals it has to break down.
Look on the back of some food that you eat on Atkins..... the ingredients usally list the same things on the front. (Eggs-Eggs lol)
I am around friends on WW all the time. I tried WW a long time ago and I needed the motivation of people around more often than once a week. The only time I was totally motivated was when I was in the meetings. And when I was home I was hungry. Always living for the next meal. Now, I eat till I am satisfied and the most important thing is that I ENJOY the food I am eating.
I'm not bashing WW, as my sister lost 35 pounds on their program over three years ago and has kept it off. She still attends the meetings and swears by them. The problem is my sister never had a huge weight problem. Even at 35 pounds heavier, she didn't look very big.
I think that any program will work for people if they STICK to it and exercise. My problem was that I was hungry and tired. Atkins has given me the energy to exercise, the variety of foods that I enjoy and can be comfortable eating for a life-time. I couldn't live very long on the other programs because I was starving all the time.
I do think that Atkins works for many of us where other programs has failed because we are satisfied and we have this ADBB board to get daily motivation and encouragment 24/7. At least that has been my experience.

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.
Being a carboholic, WW was torture to me. Back in the 80's I went to WW and was able to lose 40 pounds. But I was HUNGRY all the time. My friend and I would go to the meetings every monday and then we would drive thru McDonalds and get a large french fries to reward ourselves after the meeting. Talk about not having a clue. Needless to say, I eventually put the 40 pounds back, plus 20 more.
The big reward eating the atkins way is I am not hungry all the time. I don't even want to cheat and that is why I have been successful. I will eat this way the rest of my life. It makes me feel good in so many ways, I can never stop eating LOW CARB!!
My brother and SIL have each spent a year on different meal plans. John on Atkins and Amanda on WW. Amanda's lost 100 pounds, John only 30 and has a problem with carb creep and gains a bit and then goes back to level 1 OWL and drops it. John doesn't have a support group, Amanda has a great group of folks at WW who call her up and check if she doesn't make the meeting. If John slacks off, he's only got himself.
My take on both programs is that it's all in how you work it.
I'm doing Atkins because it's what feels right/works for me and I've lost almost 70 pounds. I have the great support network here at ADBB that keeps me motivated and keeps me "honest" to the meal plan. Could I have lost more by now, YEP, but I'm taking it slow, enjoying the foods I eat and having fun.
I did WW for 3 months and lost only 25 pounds using their points system. I was hungry all of the ding danged time, and I ate very little that was healthy, opting, instead, to save up my points for Happy Meals! *lol*
Granted, that was my decision based on the Points Program, but WW didn't work for me. The carb counts were just too high and left me hungry all the time.
On Atkins, I lost 55 pounds in the first 3 months, was never hungry, and I absolutely adore the strict eating plan, which forces me to go for the vegetables instead of the junk foods!
I've never done WW, but I have about 3 of their cookbooks because my Grandmother always gave them to me in hopes I'd lose weight (sigh). Sure, they have the points listed for each meal, but not having the literature to figure out the point system, they're pretty useless unless looking for a particular recipe for some particular occasion.
I've had pretty good results so far on Atkins, and happily enough, my DH is willing to support me, and make sure I'm no accidentally eating things that aren't on program. He's helping to keep me honest...and is helping to keep me movin' my butt.

I have lost over 100 pounds with weight watchers in the past, but I started to gain weight back cuz my eating got out of control and I got soo sick of counting every single piece of food. It is a good program, but since I've been on Atkins it's amazing how I am never starving, I actually eat only when I need to now, sometimes I forget to eat and have to force myself so I won't get sick, but with weight watchers, just knowing I had points left I would use them even if I wasn't even hungry it was like all I thought about was food. I say try Atkins for two weeks and when you see and feel the difference it makes you might just stick with it. I have soo much energy now I feel better than I have my whole life. Good luck with your choice.

Welcome back ! It's easy to get back on track just takes a few days to get use to the new way of eating...
I too keep trying to decide on which way to go .. I did atkins back in 04 and lost 60 pounds and felt wonderful. I got off track with I was pregnant with my daughter and that was 3 years ago.. I've been putting alot of weight on and I'm at my top weight of nearly 320. I just need to get back into this way of life again.. I know it works.. It helps me curb my food addiction...like papa John .. by the way Papa John you look great.. congrats
Best of luck to you hope to see you on the boards, being here is so helpful and there is always someone to help with questions as well as give you a "chin up" when you need it..
