  • My Mom is going to try Atkins!

My sister Cindy will be blown away when she reads this!

My parents, while supportive of my weight loss, have not been supportive of me doing the Atkins diet. I have talked to my Mom about it before, but she is doing LA Weightloss and kept saying how great the program is. I would always reply... That's great Mom just as long as it is something you can do forever.

Well today my Mom called. She is so frustrated because she is gaining weight now. She is working out more and LA Weightloss frowns on it. My Mom knows she was losing muscle wieght and once she began working out and sculpting her body, her weightloss stopped and her counselor was very unsupportive. Basically she feels that they want her to lose the weight whether it's muscle or fat while she wants to be healthy.

So she announced she wants to start induction! I told her to come here to get any help she needs and that we will support her. She is also hoping that when my Dad sees her results he will get involved too.

I never thought I'd hear my Mom say she was going to start Atkins. I guess the results my sister and myself have had inspired her.

      That's awesome!!

slightly OT, but what kind of program is LA Weightloss and why would anyone want to do a program that discouraged more exercise?

woo hoo Dawn I know you are so happy cause we can begreat examples but we can't make them do it!.

Mom can sort of get Dad on Atkins by cooking only induction friendly meals and fixing a few premaintenance higher carb foods for him each meal and back him into it gradually if she does the shopping and the cooking ands he will never know what hit him as he slowly gets healthier and smaller until she has him back to the lowr tiers of OWL and really losing and loving the foods.
She could just say she was fixing healthier whole grain natural foods and tell her about nuts for snacking and lower carb fruits and soon your dad will never know what happened.

Happy low carbing MichtyMucko's mommy. Faux tatoes anyone at at MightyMucko parents house?

Oh what is her screen name?

Dawn that is fantastic news. She will be so happy when those 'fat' pounds start melting off, and her muscle begins toning! LA weightloss is such a ripoff. I have a friend that did it and she was also discouraged to exercise in the beginning. Some crock about allowing your body to adjust to the new you before you begin sculpting your shape!
I'm so happy she decided to try this WOE. good for her, and YAY for your DAD. Even if he hasn't jumped on the wagon, MuckoMom can alter his menu's!
                  Welcome to health Muckomom!!!

By the way, my DD is on day 11 of Induction and has lost 10 lb's so far.
She is so excited. Also, my DS and her daughter started Induction Monday. This WOE speaks for itself. We are all walking, talking, billboards for Atkins!! YAY!!!

Yuppers I talked to Mom last night and she was very disheartened with LA. Basically LA tells you what to eat every second of the day. They print out a calendar for you for the month with all things you can eat that particular day, week, etc. The problem is that there is no variation whatsoever and for Mom and Dad it is virtually impossible. They do like to eat out sometimes b/c they will be in town and get hungry and have to do something. Additionally LA cut their meat waaaaaaaaay down and they are big meat eaters so she went online b/c she knew we were pigging out on steaks and stuff!!!!!! :nod and wanted to check it out.

                    Good luck Mom!!!

:hug :hug I love you Dawn and Cindy!!!
Enough already, I'm givig Atkins a shot but you both know how I feel about dieting. What I really want is a quick fix, but THAT AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN! LOL so I'll give Atkins a shot and once the doctor releases me, I'll be back in the gym. Belive it or not I did have a slight weight problem until I gave birth to Dawn. And I didn't have a weight problem until I had her baby brother Lars! So that means I have spent the past 30 years on yo-yo diets! At my age, I need to get healthy and lose weight too. I work out at the gym 5 days a week. 3 days weight training, and arthritis water aerobics, and 2 days spin class. LOL some times I feel like I live at the gym. I have noticed I am getting stronger, more flexible, and just feel better, but the scale is moving in the WRONG direction! My trainer tells me to hang in there, that I'm doing everything right but maybe my diet is wrong. As one girl at the gym told me, I can pay her $4.00 a week to weight me! Made me stop and think. What is wrong with this picture. So I will give Atkins a shot and we'll see what happens. I want to get in shape, be slimmer, and be healthy too. I want to be the best looking bikergranny on the road!

woo hoo welcome bikergranny! Good thing you don't want a diet as Atkins is a way of life

Oh and we allow all forms of exercise in our challenges so sign up walking is a fine one as is chasing after grandkids as long as you do it on foot and not the bike. Atkins eating with your working out will make you a bikerbabe in no time. I saw your post about the muscles you were adding and while they do not weigh more then fat as a pound is a pound your trainer had the right Idea as they are denser then fat so an inch of muscle weighs more then an inche of fat which is why you need to make friends with your tapemeasure again and watch those inches of fat mealting off even when the sclae doesn't validate your hard work working your Atkins. Right Dawn?

                        Haqppy low carbing.

Mom I am so glad you are here and LISTEN TO 2BIG! She is the know all of Atkins and fitness and has lost MEGA weight. She is right on with using the tape measure over the scales since you are working out so much, and Atkins and exercise is a wonderful combination. You get the protien and complex carbs you need to fuel your body plus you get a huge variety so it's something you can do for life...easily!

                          Love ya Mom!

BTW, I'm feeling much better today.

Welcome to the best forum on the site and ADBB in general, bikergranny! Glad to see our family of Atkineers can actually include some actual family members. It certainly sounds like the exercise piece is down already. The commitment to the food selection should be no problem then.
