  • What to do, what to do

Good Morning everyone....... day 12 of induction for me. I will be making the decision whether to move onto OWL or stay in extended induction over the next two days. It looks like my weight loss will be around 10 pounds. I'm not unhappy with that. This is my dilemna.

    1. I am not eating enough. I have to figure out the average amount of carbs I have eaten over my 14 days and then add the five more carbs to that number? I am leaning more towards moving up. If Ricotta was on Induction I'd stay there forever lol. Nothing much I miss as far as food goes. I am eating when I am hungry. That is not often. Getting my water in, easy 96- 128 oz a day. I have had splenda twice in 12 days. Its a goal of mine to limit that. I have succeeded.

    2. I have a fear of adding more carbs in and loosing control. More Veggies to start with is not going to hurt me. I am going to add pumpkin to start. I was too afraid on induction to make the cream cheese pumpking thingy. Cheese is really easy for me to lose control of. I would also like to add spaghetti squash. Hopefully these will get me up to the 20 grams on a more regular basis. It seems like one day i make it, good on calories/carbs. Next day I am not hungry and eat very little. Its an every other day cycle it seems. Hungry/ not/ hungry/ not. I feel great tho.

Re: What to do, what to do

    Hey Ms

After induction is where things get tricky in my opinion and where frustration can set in. some people still continue to lose fast and others slow down a little

It would be a good point to not only look at weight but take tape measurements, take some pictures, and if you have not already start a diary or a blog. The changes seem slow sometimes but when you look at them via a diary later on they seem really fast.

Excercise is not an option here, this will boost your metabolism and help melt away those pounds as well.

Water is something we all slack on after induction, it's important to help your body flush those toxins away.

I'm not a good person at measuring the carbs out, I myself stay lower and have stuck to ONLY veggies for carbs right now. I do have some cheese every few days I make a MEAN cheese omelette.

As far as making stuff that is sweet and low carb, and the splenda issue. For me it ONLY makes things worste. I love and crave sweets so bad. If I could I'd eat a Krispy Keme donut and snort some Pixy Stix to get a sugar rush right now. But then again I'd definately be off the Atkins plan!

Some people can control their sweet urges, some can't. If you are a sweet lover maybe you cant. It's really something you gotta ask yourself. Even if you make low carb deserts, you will be prone to have extra servings of "low" carb "sugar free" and go OVER your carb limit because since it's sugar free you rationalize you can eat an extra peice or eat it often. This has caught me in the past, and I eventually use it as a gateway from low carb, sugar free, right back into the Donut shop.

So that's all I can advise, I've been on and off this train at least 3 other times, and those other times I derailed myself at least once this way. Splenda seemed like a God Send but it just allowed me to creep back into my old ways. I only use it sparingly in Coffee now and I'm trying to get rid of it there too (slowly)

    Good Luck !

      Thanks, Ipedregon,
That would be me, I liked my carb in the sweet variety. Bread, pasta, chippage, beans that's not me. So i too am staying far from the SF dessert type things, they derailed me also. I may as well skip the fruit rung because I can't eat just 5 carbs of any kind of fruit either. It will be a tedious journey up the ladder, Carbaholic, like alcholic. Just one shot send em off the wagon. I am going to add the veggies. I need to eat more. Unfortunately I am enjoying not eating.

Re: What to do, what to do

In DANDR 2002, Dr. Atkins devotes a Chapter on when it is time to move onto OWL. Read it. It is right after the Chapter on Induction. No one can say it as well as Dr. Atkins and you need to think about it before you begin OWL. For some, OWL can be a slippery slope if they aren't ready or are moving on for the wrong reasons.

        Good luck with your decision.

I have it sitting right beside me and have been reading some stickies. Thank you IrishIrish, I know, I am very hesitant to move on but I have been here before and quit so many times, I need to learn to do it right. My first thing i am going to do is go thru the list. Find the veggies I have not eaten on induction and add them in slowly. I am happy with where I am. I have NEVER made it thru induction logging every meal in fitday, I have this time. Trying to study this WOE and study Myself. Learn from mistakes and most important not give up.
