Ha! I go from no posting to going crazy..that's what I get for a slow night at work.
As I mentioned before I was going to give up my job in EMS because I'm just not able to spend as much time with my family as I would like. I now have an additional dilema because my BF is no longer working (our choice so he could stay home with the baby while I work) so I am now the sole provider for a family of 3. Well I went and applied for the job with the county and did the test they require on 3/17. This past Saturday I got a letter advising me that I had received a 94%. I was pretty excited. Well I called the HR lady today to ask a question about another job, and she told me I had scored the highest out of 60 applicants! That made me feel so good. Unfortunately there aren't any openings, this was just for a recruiment list..but it made me feel like I do have skills outside of EMS.
Additionally.. since I moved to Lake Tahoe my commute has increased to 45 mins from 30. I am going to apply for the Sheriffs office in the town that I live in to be a dispatcher. My dad is the commander of the Sheriff's office there, but he won't be my direct boss, so there isn't any conflict there. I would start at $4 an hour more than I make now, plus county retirement and health benefits, and work less than a mile from where I live. Additionally they pay their employees that work at this substation an additional $500 a month for a cost of living differential because it's so expensive to live up there.. making my hourly about $20. It seems like a no brainer to me. While I would still be working shift work I would still see a lot more of my family, just by cutting down on my commute time. Plus I think they work 8-10 hour shifts vs. my 12 hour shifts. So wish me luck. I figure I'll work there until I can get in with the other job that I tested for.
WOW... that was long.. thanks for whoever read this long!
