  • How do I join?

Hi Guys! I have A LOT of weight to lose...close to 170 lbs. God I hate saying that outloud...anyway...I'm on week 4 of Atkins, doing an extended induction type thing. How do I join the Century Club? I have lost 3 lbs in a week (I didn't track weight loss the first 2 weeks because I was too chicken to step on a scale), but now I feel like I'm just dragging along. So many people say they have an abundance of energy....where is that coming from? I'm certainly not getting it! Anyway, I'd love some help...I'm feeling a bit hopeless at the moment. But don't get me wrong, I'm determined...just need a little inspiration today. Anyway, please let me know how I can join this great group!

Thank you! I already joined? Well that was easy! No application fee or anything? lol I do feel better as a whole definitely, I feel like I'm achieving something and doing something that will pay off in the long run. I just wish I had that extra boost that made me wanna go outside and get exercising. I need to learn to be patient...and accept that I may not see results for quite a while. Anyway, I look forward to figuring this whole thing out and sharing our stories together!

Application fee? That's sooo the 90's. We prefer a pound of flesh here. LOL

The "boost" will come in spurts..at least it does with me. All in all, my energy level is at least double what it was when I started last month. Patience is a pain in the rear, isn't it? LOL

          Welcome to the club!

I never really noticed a "boost" of energy...but I did notice that I spend less time watching TV...

Are you exercising? That really helps keep things moving

Thanks for responding! I am exercising...but not as much as I should be. I really need to get a move on in that aspect of my weight loss. Hey I have a question for you guys...extended induction, is it ok to have a low carb treat once in a while such as a diet pop or low carb ice cream? I was hoping to do an extended induction, but I dont know that I can be deprived that long! lol What do you guys think?

Niko - Patience is something I've never had, apparently the patience fairy skipped my house as a kid. I'm all about instant gratification...so knowing this process is going to take a long time really bothers me. But, I'm trying! lol I am so glad that there is a place where I can talk to other Atkinites since I am the only person I know on this diet...sometimes you just need to get out some frustration or anxiety over this diet! lol

                    Re: How do I join?

Hi Sarah, and welcome! As for a low carb ice cream every once in a while when you reach extended induction, I would just caution you about it. Most people on this board would probably tell you straight up no, but the honest truth is nobody but yourself knows how your body is going to react. If you think you are disciplined enough to handle it every once in a while and you just have one serving I honestly don't see the big deal. Don't make it an every day habit or anything though til you reach the appropriate rung of OWL.

Okay, now it's time for me to put on my flak jacket for all the stones people will throw at me for not advising you to just follow DANDR to the letter!

                      Re: How do I join?

Thanks Ryan! I did go to a local low carb store and pick up some low carb ice cream because I was just going crazy with all the temptation around me and I figured that it would be better to have a half a cup of low carb ice cream than it would to just go off the deep end. I only had it once last week, and so I'll be watching myself this week and when I weigh in on Friday I'll see what the verdict is. I did a clean 14 day induction, but I thought maybe I'd help myself along by continuing induction but I don't know that I'm THAT disciplined yet lol. Anyway, thank you very much for your response! I appreciate it!

                        Re: How do I join?

                        Sarah,
Welcome to the Century Club. Hope you stay a long time and enjoy yourself while you are here. My personal take on the low carb treats is different now, then it was a couple years ago when I tried, failed, tried, failed this way of eating. I did my whole induction free of sugar substitutes and it did put the enemy at bay. I wish you would have weighed yourself, that first two weeks weight loss can be impressive and beneficial to the psyche. Having said that, its not uncommon to slow down after that, which I'm sure you've already read. Mine did, but I feel alright with a pound a week, more and i feel blessed. I notice in myself that IF i choose to eat sf popsicles, or diet pop which is not often, once a month maybe, I tend to crave more that whole day. I had drank 130 plus ounces of water and eaten enough food one night, I decided to drink a sf rootbeer with splenda and it caused me the worst cravings I have had so far. I can't eat just a half cup of sf ice cream, kudos to you if you can, sounds like you mastered that. But those products led me astray/derailed me before and knowing that, I stay far away from them. If you move up the rungs adding more veggies, a few more carbs it stimulates more weight loss in some folks. I stayed on extended induction last time i tried atkins,I failed, my own fault, I added things back in to quick and not methodically. This time, i have that experience under my belt and know some of my triggers. So this time i forged ahead into a Modified owl and am trying to learn how to live this and not make it some kind of diet but a life long way. Sorry for being so long winded. Good Luck and welcome.

Yea actually we are right next door to Eugene. I lived in Portland for about a day once lol. I was obesessed with my sites too but I always gravitated more to ADBB and this is the only one I post to now. I love it here and if it wasn't for everyone here I would have given up by now

MsUnderstood...thanks for your reply! Luckily I don't seem to crave more when I allow myself a treat, the ability to have a treat once in a while seems to keep me more satisfied and feeling less restricted. Mostly the hardest thing is just seeing people eating all these carbs, and it makes me daydream about going into a bread store and going nuts lol. But I definitely don't go overboard on it, not yet anyway, knock on wood. It'll be a month at the end of this week, time has really flown by after that first week, which was ****! lol But I'm really glad that I found this site and all these great people to talk to, it definitely helps! You guys are all inspirational and its great to find a place where I feel like I belong. Its like I found my motherland! lol Ok, I'm a dork.

Tutti - I have a friend that lives in Eugene, I've been down there quite a bit, I'm a big UofO fan, so I'm very familiar with the area. Couldn't live in Portland huh? I'm a suburbanite all the way, even a little country maybe. I like my space, and I'm not one for public transit lol, so living IN Portland would not be for me lol. I'm glad to hear from you, good talking to everyone on here! I'm more addicted to this than Twitter now! lol

Ha Ha, I took my son to Subway tonight and the smell of baking bread was overwhelming. I came out unscathed tho lol. I tried to get him to go in alone, he was not up for that.
