  • Hello! I am new!

Hello to each and every one of you! My name is Debbie. This is my third day on Atkins and I just need some support. My beginning weight was 284 and I want to get to 165. I am 30-years-old.

I am a professor at a national university were I teach communications classes. I love my job and have been teaching at the university level since 1998.

I got engaged on October 27, 2004 so I am a little wedding crazy right now. You will have to forgive me if I go insane at certain moments because my dear Mother is helping to plan the even and apparently she is the one in charge. Our wedding is fast approaching on April 30.

My fiance is a wonderful person, but he has been on the diet yo-yo with me many times. He said I won't stick to this one either and it just makes me grumpy. He needs to lose about 80 pounds himself, but he says he will when he is ready. I am hoping that if I can work on getting healthier, then he will follow suit. I am just down today so I decided to find people who are in the same boat as me. I would love a diet buddy to email back and forth for support.

    Have a wonderful day,
    Debbie

      Glad to be here

      Kathy,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I don't really know why I am feeling so down today. I am just so out of energy. I mean, being fat I am generally not the most active person, but this down feeling is not like that. I am glad to be here.

Debbie...Since you are only on your 3rd day of induction, you are probably feeling the "induction flu". This happens in your first few days of switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat instead. Just hang in there and it will pass fairly quickly and then your energy level will soar and you will feel great!

That draggy "induction flu" feeling just proves that your Atkins is working for you. You should see the weight start dropping fairly soon. I don't know if anyone advised you to do this, but be sure and take your measurements. Once you start losing, sometimes you will lose lots of inches before you see a drop in pounds. It is a great motivation to see those inches disappear. I measured neck, bust, under my bust, around the tummy area, waist, hips, thighs, calves, ankles, upper arms, forearms, and wrists. Pick a day and make that day your official weigh and measure day and only count that day as your official weight and measurements for the week. Keep a record so you can look back and see how far you've come.
