  • What can I expect?

I know that every person is different and all body chemistry is unique, but I have noticed that people have signatures with goals attached to them. How do you know if you are even setting a reasonable goal for yourself? I am just asking because I would like to set a goal for hitting 250 from my weight now of 284 and I am not sure how to even go about trying to do that? Any ideas? :confused

I'm not sure about that either, to be honest. When I began a year ago, my ultimate (and seemingly unreachable) goal was to simply return to a size 18. Now that I'm there, I want to be a size 16, and I figure I'll keep going until I feel "just right".

I remember 2Big discussing this very topic many months ago, but I can't remember what she said. Perhaps she'll be kind enough to repeat herself.....

      Thanks!

      JoAnne,
Perhaps she will as I would love to set some attainable goals. Right now losing 120 pounds is just so far in the future I feel I need something more immediate like 10 pounds.

Deb--there were several site that offer ideas on ranges of what would work for heights and body frame (small, medium, large) to give you a general idea of where you might consider. I could be anywhere from 135 up to 160 and still be "healthy" for my height 5'4" depending on if my frame is medium or large and which site I choose. I know I'll not be a size 4, but size 8/10 is doable, or was long ago...right now I'd be in heaven being a size 10/12 and stay there forever...LOL!

KentuckyGirl-Hi there! I know rom personal experience that setting small goals is a must for some-I am one of them I started off at 262 and want to get to 125- thats to hard to think about thoguht it seems like thats unreachable- but i set mini goals like my first was 220, then under 200 right now im in the march to june challenge in the challege section and my goal is to be 175 by june, set your goals to what you feel is attainable to you, like say.. celebrate afer every 20lb loss, or give yourself 3 months to lose say..15-20 lbs, come join us in the challege section and it started a while back but it goes through june and you can give us your stats and it really helps we did one from de-feb then we did a new one from march - june and after june im sure there are some of us that will extend that as well from june-aug, it sets up small goals because each goal met is avictory and worth celebrating(not with food though)lol, good luch and you will do great
            ORIGINALLY STARTED:
            9/1/04
AT 272 AND BY 7/1/05 WAS AT
            181

:wave Sorry, send me a PM if you need me to answer a topic I am a bad person to ask about planning to get goals cause if you ask any of the old timers i didn't have any and frustrated the heck out of ADBB's goal setting mods. Evey time I'd cross one of those weight monument numbers folk post about I'd just be changing my sig line thingie and looking for the next xhange at the next weekly official weigh oin date. I was a happy go lucky losser with no goals other then to get smaller. All I did was pay me $5 a pound and told myself when I got to 100 pounds gone i'd go shopping with it andI did, after that I did the same except goal weight number was the spending date till i got that you got to have minigoals fever.
              :sadblinky

In my 2 yrs here I can tell you very very few folk make those date goals unles they are like 5 pouns in 6 mobthe a small amount in a long time. Don't set yourself up for failure as the frustration and pressure you will be putting on yourself to meat those dead lines just isn't worth it. I caved to those you have to have goal folk and made some and I can tell you the pressure you feel to achieve them gets to you.
But if you got to have goals then break your loss up into small increments some folk use 5 pound blocks some folk use larger blocks and determine what your reward will be for acheiving it. Whenyou get it cross it off and work on the next block but no time limits at all.

One slow loser had mini rewards for 5 pounds and larger rewards for 10 pounds. She used lipgloss and perfume bottles. Find some nonfood iten you can afford and will try to earn so you are motivated to get it and feel rewarded for getting it.

I'm not sure what my ultimate goal will be, but I set mini goals of 10% of my current weight. Just think how great it would be to lose an entire 10th of you! When I reach 10%, then I recalculate another 10% for my next goal. The best part, is each time, my mini goal becomes smaller and smaller. This also helps, since as you get smaller, it is harder to get the weight off, so a smaller mini goal is more attainable. Just a thought.
