  • UPDATE on new walking partner

I told you a few weeks ago that I got a new walking partner. I've been so excited and look forward to walking and talking with her after work. We started walking together last Friday. She walked Friday, then took Sat and Sun off. Then we walked Mon. Tuesday...she said there was a show on tv that she wanted to watch. I told her we could wait and go after her show, but she said to go without her. Tonight, I walked down to get her and she said it was too windy outside. HUH??? I've walked in rain, hail and snow before. She said she promises to go tomorrow night. I wonder what her excuse will be then?

I'm sorry she isn't working out for you. Glad you are going on without her and not cancelling your walking cause of her. Contact one of your local track clubs and see if they have any walkers looking for a partner those are commited folk and will be like you!.

Thanks Lisa for the comment. I appreciate it. You know, I've come to the conclusion that we can only be responsible for our own actions and when it comes to exercise and eating right...we have to do it for us. Its really nice to have a friend to walk with, but everyday I make up my mind I am going walking regardless of others.

My husband bought me an MP3 player for Christmas and that is my best friend. I always have music or talk radio (whichever mood I'm in) to go for my walk. When I listen to the MP3 player...I don't even think about how far I've walked. I just do it. Sometimes I'll walk longer so I can finish listening to something.

When I started this WOL, I made a promise to myself that IF it worked, I'd do my share. Well, it definitely works...so I am dedicated to keep up my part of the bargain. I've come a long way, but I still have a ways to go.

        SMILE....

I know exactly how you feel. I have a friend that always says she wants to go walking then when I call to say I am ready to go there is always an excuse. She never feels good enough to go. I want to tell her that if she will force herself to go a few times that she would start to feel better but that is hard to tell someone. Congrats to you on all the walking I am trying to convince myself that I can go alone and don't have to wait for someone to go with me. I will think of you as inspiration tonight when all the excuses not to go come creaping into my mind.

                Becky,

I understand it's nice to have someone to walk with. I had all the same excuses. I just couldn't get moving this past winter, and then my DD moved in and I finally had the motivation I needed. I admire you for going on without her. You are so right about taking responsibility for your own health. I'm hoping that when she does move, I will continue on without her!

                Thanks for the extra motivation!

                Hugs,Tammy

Sounds like she has lost her will to walk! It's nothing to do with you, she just doesn't have your dedication. I wish you were close by. I need a good walking partner!

I'd like to see all of us at ADBB walk together. What comes to mind is on Forest Gump when he started walking and never quit. We'd all be walking and talking so much we'd loose track of time and probably be clear across the country by the time we realized it. ( :nod

SOOO true!!! I usually exercise by myself mostly because of the time. On Monday and Tuesday, my girlfriend wanted to go to the gym with me, which was fine because I've been asking her to go forever and she's just lazy. Well then her roommate wanted to go, which was ok too.
I like to work out for an hour and a half. 30 min on stairclimber and 60 minutes on treadmill. After 40 min, the roommate wanted to go home! She just couldn't be there anymore, so she walked home! (What a butt) And after an hour my friend wanted to leave! I still had 30 min that I needed to work out for!!!!

I got another 15 min then left...

Then on Tuesday, I told her how long I wanted to stay, After an hour she wanted to know when I was going to be ready!!!! ARGH
So I cut my workout a little short and didn’t stretch and hurt my knee. What a pain!
I prefer going by myself, I can workout as long as I want (without being rushed) !!!!

A great walking partner is a dog! They are always up for it! In my house all you have to do is put on your shoes and/or go to the coat closet and Gizmo will be waiting for you at the door, tail wagging! :icondance

I agree on the dog. My black lab always wanted to go with me everywhere I went. He never got tired or found excuses. Now...all I have are aquatic frogs. I guess they would make good swimming partners. Smile

Two of my cats LOVE going for a stroll. Unfortunately, one can never build up a good pace because they have to stop and smell every little thing!!! lol

Becky, I love both your attitude AND your commitment to yourself. You're so amazing...
