  • Thanksgiving menus

What will YOU be having for Thanksgiving dinner? I'll be making my own (with plenty to share) this evening and then warming it tomorrow while I'm cooking all the sides for everyone else.

I'm going to make some parmesan and herb chicken, cauliflower with bell peppers, olives and cheese. I'm also making a huge bowl of pumpkin pie (fake stuff) and the monsters have requested deviled eggs.

Why is the pumpkin pie stuff fake?

Why is pumpkin pie with sugar "real"?

Best not to think in terms of "fake" and "real". That's assigning value ... if the the Atkins friendly pumpkin pie is good, then it's as real as the other.

That's how we determine what's normal southern cooking vs atkins in my house..lol. If it's chock full of sugar and all the bad stuff, the kids call it "real". If it's an atkins recipe, they call it "fake". The funny thing is that the kids are the ones who specifically asked for the "fake pumpkin pie" for dessert. hehehe

I'll be having turkey, salad, veggies and devilled eggs. My sister is going to try sugar-free cranberry sauce but I've tried making that before and so far I've had no luck making it taste good. Hopefully she will have better success as that would be a nice treat.

Mine is about 1/3 cup granular Splenda to 1 regular size bag (12 oz) cranberries ... and not so much water.

Also ... it helps to make it the day before ... so the Splenda has a chance to smooth out.

Thanks gal - I was just going to look for your recipe; I had seen it earlier this week. Its on my menu!

We're cooking our Turkey on the grill, Turkey Giblet Gravy, Savory Herb Turkey Stuffing, Mashed Caulifower, Sweet Potato Casserole, Company Broccoli and a Pumpkin Desert [not sure which]....then for the teenagers - Mashed Potatoes, rolls and Macaroni and Cheese [silly family tradition ]. How great is that!

For appetizers I'm making a cheese platter, a veggie platter, and pickes, olives & celery with cream cheese dish. For dinner we're having turkey, cauliflower mock mashed potatoes, broccoli with holandaise sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing & rolls and apple salad (I will omit the last 5). For desert we have pumpkin pie, chocolate pie and a low carb cheese cake. Yummm yumm yumm!

We'll be going to my youngest BIL's house. Between what we bring and what they're making we'll have turkey, green beans, loaded roasted garlic mashed faux-tatoes, slaw made with red cabbage and fennel and the innards of whatever sugar-free berry or pumpkin pie they buy. (I know, I know - I'm checking the ingredients before I put it in my mouth!)
