  • What keeps you going?

What helps you stick to this WOE?
For me the first time around it was mainly because of how terrible I felt all the time. My joints always ached, my sugar was out of control, and I just hated everything about myself. As the pounds melted off that was incentive enough for me to keep going.

This time around it's more for my DD than myself. I know if I keep going down this destructive path that I will not get to enjoy her as much as I want and may not even be around long enough to see her get married and have children of her own. She has become my world. Of course it would also be nice to get back into some skinny jeans or give DH a treat in some lingerie

    What about you?

    Re: What keeps you going?

What keeps me going is the fact that I am at school and am one of the biggest women there. Sometimes it's difficult fitting in those chairs. Plus, if I kept going the other way, I would have to order tons of new clothes because my biggest clothes were getting snug! Sad! But true!

I know how you feel about your clothes... I'm still wearing maternity clothes and sweats all the time. I have a box of size 14 jeans that I absolutely loved sitting in my closet just taunting me =(

        Re: What keeps you going?

What keeps me going? My husband was 44 when he was diagnosed with diabetes, and a heart arrthymia. He had worked full time plus up to 15 hours a week overtime. He never missed a day of work. Then just like that his sugar was up to somtimes over 500.. His heart rate over 200 a couple of times... He had to have his heart jumped 5 times... 2 heart surgeries one lasting 15 hours. He ended up on about 16 pills a day. He was in the hospital for weeks at a time. I lost him to a car accident about a year later. The coroner found his bottle of heart meds in the road they believe he had a heart attack. He was 45 at this time 6'4 360 pounds. It made me realize how important life is, to take care of myself to the best of my ability. To be here for my family while I am able and to never let someone I love leave without me telling them I love them even if they are just going to the store...fortunately I talked with my husband about 25 min before the accident and was able to tell him I loved him.

          Re: What keeps you going?

First of all, I am so sorry Warmsummerfall about your husband. Sadly, too many people have died too young and too tragically from diseases that may have been avoided if they had the answers that we are finding here on this board and with good nutrition. Blessings to you.

For me, I came here because I was sick and tired of being fat. I stayed here because I found my answers. And I continue to stay around because several very smart moderators told me it was important to "pay it forward". Even when I didn't feel like being encouraging because I was struggling myself, I did it anyway and I received soooooo much back!

My medical issues from my days as severely morbidly obese are resolved. I live a healthy lifestyle. I rely on Atkins, DANDR 2002, the love of my family and friends, a spiritual belief of my choosing. After a couple of years on this plan when it felt that I'd never reach my "goal", I decided to pretend I was healthy and live my life as such.

I get my motivation to this day from returning to this board and reading lots of posts from newbies and people questioning Atkins and how it works or sharing their success whether a few pounds or many. And, in turn, I share my experience with Atkins. My life is full. I love my family but I also love who I have become and put myself first five days a week by working out, taking care of myself and those around me and trying to live the best that I can.

We can all do this if we want to and make it a priority. Blessings.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

To you WarmSummer. So sorry to hear of your loss. There are too many good people that die so young.

IrishIrish- I remember you from my last time on here almost a year or 2 ago. You are such an inspiration and you have no idea how much you as well as quite a few others help me to stay on plan.
